1,200 students from Bolivian Adventist University came together with government officials on May 6, 2022, to engage in a “fusion between tourism and care for the environment.” Seventh-day Adventists collaborated on this green project with the government’s Secretariat for Productive Development, Tourism and Culture, as well as the Municipal Cleaning Service Company.
Miguel Fajardo, the Director of Tourism, said that the 1,200 Adventist students’ clean-up work was “extremely important” because the Cristo de la Concordia (statue of Jesus) is “one of the city’s greatest attractions.” He also stated that the monument is the city’s face and must be kept clean, and that Seventh-day Adventist involvement in this “initiative” demonstrated their “commitment to the environment.” [1]
The rector of Bolivian Adventist University, Alfredo Santa Cruz, the highest official at the institution, stated that cleaning the city is part of the “university’s philosophy,” and that “we always instill in our students support for the environment.” He also stated that “caring for the environment” was a part of the students’ “day-to-day” activities. [1]
Is this what we are all about, brothers and sisters? Garbage collectors? Is this the new mission and focus of the Remnant people? Is the new Adventist philosophy to help the environment by picking up trash for the government? The surest way to abandon our God-given mission is by adopting a series of social justice initiatives that seem harmless at first, but then we will realize only too late when we find ourselves on the road to Rome, heading in the opposite direction that does not lead to the kingdom of God.
It is no secret that the Vatican, the United Nations, and world governments are all committed to “sustainable development.” What’s so wrong with cleaning up our environment, planting trees, and advocating for cleaner water and air? After all, aren’t those good things? Yes, those things are beneficial on their own.
However, if the Covid pandemic taught us anything, it’s that even good things like “health mandates,” which were supposed to be for our own good, can be hijacked and used for evil. How can we, as commandment-keeping people, tell the difference between legitimate environmental concerns and the globalists’ socially weaponized policies? There is a distinction between the two, and it will become even more pronounced during the impending Sunday law crisis.
The church’s gospel emphasis is being replaced by social justice initiatives such as climate action, gender identity, and a new economy, and it appears that many leaders are on board with these new goals. What’s alarming is that the Vatican, UN Marxist globalists, and secular governments have hijacked these social issues, turning them into political tools for changing our laws and establishing a global socialist political order. This is precisely what Rome is doing. In order to protect the environment, Pope Francis has called for a global political authority over the entire world.
“To manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result; to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration: for all this, there is urgent need of a true world political authority” (Laudato Si’ #175).
Many well-intentioned Seventh-day Adventists are being duped into taking part in woke social justice initiatives without realizing the consequences. Rather than sharing God’s most solemn message (Revelation 14:6-12), the world is encouraging us to embrace their version of “sustainability,” which will lead us straight into the mark of the beast crisis.
The present climate change movement merely serves to reaffirm what we already know. More than a century ago, God told us not to be silent about our message and not to join those who “depart from the faith.” Unfortunately, we are doing both. The following statement reveals not our ignorance but our disobedience to God’s instruction.
“I have been instructed that the messages given in the past are to be revived, and that it is essential that as brethren and sisters, we be joined together in the bonds of sacred union in the accomplishment of the work before us. The world knows very little of the truths that we believe, and in clear, straight lines the message for this time must be given to all the world. The message comes to me, ‘Wake up the watchmen. Let everyone now come into working order’.” (Review and Herald, April 19, 1906).
“Another angel is to come down from heaven. This angel represents the giving of the loud cry, which is to come from those who are preparing to cry mightily, with a strong voice, ‘Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.’ We have a testing message to give, and I am instructed to say to our people, Unify, unify. But we are not to unify with those who are departing from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. With our hearts sweet and kind and true, we are to go forth to proclaim the message, giving no heed to those who lead away from the truth” (Review and Herald, April 19, 1906).
