On Monday morning, June 6, 2022, the opening of the 61st General Conference Session began in St. Louis, MO. The theme that would set the tone for the entire session was the Holy Spirit and the Latter Rain. Ted Wilson, Mark Finley, Barry Black, Dwight Nelson and others spoke out strongly, arguing that we need the Latter Rain and that we can have it to finish the work if we just ask.
During the opening worship service, President Ted Wilson expressed the following:
Minute 32:57 – “I encourage you to pray for the Holy Spirit in a very special way as we move into the special time of prayer and of reconciliation of reformation and humility.”
Minute 33:37 – “I want to ask that you will sacredly join in this plea for the Holy Spirit.”
Minute 34:18 – “We are here for the Holy Spirit to direct as He wills.”
Minute 34:32 – “We entrust our hearts into your care and plead for the Holy Spirit to fill this dome and this convention center.” [1]
Jerry Page, Director of the General Conference Ministerial Association, said the following:
Minute 36:24 – “We are coming at the beginning of this session for an hour and twenty minutes. This is amazing for a general conference session, to begin with this much time to pray and to listen to great leaders of this church who are filled with the Holy Spirit.” [1]
Jerry Page went on to discuss the Holy Spirit’s control over our minds, receiving the Holy Spirit’s baptism, and the importance of praying for the Holy Spirit. Jerry Page said that the church brought out the big, powerful preachers in Adventism. They gathered the “best known leaders” to achieve the goal of getting everyone on board to pray for the Holy Spirit. Jerry Page went on to say:
Minute 39:36 – “Well, we have three of our best known leaders and I don’t have to introduce them, so I will keep it short because you know them so well. They will lead us into this prayer time for today, lead us in God’s word, and pray for the Spirit. Mark Finley, do I need to introduce him … we all know Mark. He is the assistant to the President … We also have Dwight Nelson. I think all of these men have been mentors to all of us. Dwight has been at Andrews for 39 years and is going on 40. What a man of God he has been to mentor so many of us … All three of these men have provided massive evidence of the Holy Spirit’s working in their lives. The third one is Dr. Barry Black, the chaplain of the United States Senate.” [1]
After that, Jerry Page prayed for the Holy Spirit. The song “Spirit of the Living God” was then sung several times. Then, Mark Finley, Dwight Nelson, and Barry Black all emphasized the importance of the Holy Spirit. Following each speaker, attendees were given time to pray together and in groups of two or three for the Holy Spirit. So there were several seasons of prayer, both as a body and in small groups.
It seemed to me that they were putting in an excessive amount of effort to show the world church that they were doing everything they could to receive the Latter Rain while ignoring the most important aspect. One of the most crucial requirements for receiving the Latter Rain was completely overlooked. Notice what God says:
“I was shown that if God’s people make no efforts on their part, but wait for the refreshing to come upon them and remove their wrongs and correct their errors; if they depend upon that to cleanse them from filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and fit them to engage in the loud cry of the third angel, they will be found wanting. The refreshing or power of God comes only on those who have prepared themselves for it by doing the work which God bids them, namely, cleansing themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 619).
As difficult as the job is, if we don’t confront apostasy or if we just want to put this issue aside and ignore it, then all this talk about the Holy Spirit is completely useless. The Latter Rain will never come to us. Despite God’s imperative to do so, this critical point about correcting wrongs is never raised or addressed. We can pray seven times a day for the Latter Rain, and we can preach all day about receiving the Holy Spirit “till the cows come home,” but if we ignore sin and error, we will never receive the Holy Spirit’s power to finish God’s work. That is exactly what God says.
We have not learned from our own history. We are repeating the same mistakes made in 1888. What the General Conference fails to see is that they are to blame for God’s people not experiencing the Latter Rain. Sister White stated just that; but we are not alone. The leaders of the 1888 General Conference Session were also responsible for keeping the Latter Rain from descending on the church:
“An unwillingness to yield up preconceived opinions, and to accept this truth, lay at the foundation of a large share of the opposition manifested at Minneapolis against the Lord’s message through Brethren [E.J.] Waggoner and [A.T.] Jones. By exciting that opposition Satan succeeded in shutting away from our people, in a great measure, the special power of the Holy Spirit that God longed to impart to them. The enemy prevented them from obtaining that efficiency which might have been theirs in carrying the truth to the world, as the apostles proclaimed it after the day of Pentecost. The light that is to lighten the whole earth with its glory was resisted, and by the action of our own brethren has been in a great degree kept away from the world” (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 234).
The leaders of the 1888 General Conference Session were responsible for delaying the coming of the Latter Rain. And today, in the year 2022, the current leadership gathered in St. Louis is also to blame for the delay because they refuse to “remove” the “wrongs” and “errors” from our midst. There is a lack of effort on the part of the leadership to rid the church of its “filthiness of the flesh” and to combat heresy at all levels. This is why the Latter Rain has not yet come. These are not my words. This is what inspiration says, as quoted above in Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 619.
Today, we still reject the 1888 message. In our efforts to please Rome and the Evangelical churches, some have replaced the everlasting gospel of Revelation 14 with the ecumenical gospel, the rainbow gospel, the Mother Earth gospel, and the social justice gospel. This is being done to improve our relationship with the ecumenical movement and the Sunday-keeping churches. How can God pour out His Spirit on a “new organization” that is rejecting the “fundamental principles” and declaring them as “error.” (1SM 204). We’ve arrived at a point where people want to decide what their own truth is. These feelings can be found throughout Adventism.
The 1888 Message was the beginning of the Loud Cry and the Latter Rain. Since 1888, our evangelistic priorities have deteriorated even more thanks to Rome’s ecumenical movement. The mere fact that we are having a General Conference Session in 2022 is proof that something is wrong. Why are we still here? Why hasn’t God given us the Latter Rain? The question should be: Why should God give us the Latter Rain while so many are busy building coalitions with Rome, aligning with globalists and promoting their policies on ecumenism, feminism, Romanism, radical environmentalism, the LGBT+ agenda and a host of other liberal, Marxist ideas? If God gave us His Latter Rain power, would we use it to benefit God or to benefit Rome and help build up their universal fraternity?
“Only those who are living up to the light they have will receive greater light. Unless we are daily advancing in the exemplification of the active Christian virtues, we shall not recognize the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain. It may be falling on hearts all around us, but we shall not discern or receive it” (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 507).
The Holy Spirit cannot fall upon a body when there is sin, disobedience, or apostasy. And it doesn’t matter what kind of sin: selfishness, greed, idolatry, heresy, or the act of omission and neglecting to cleanse the church. Jesus clearly taught that when the Holy Spirit comes, “He will reprove the world of sin” (John 16:8). When every man and woman in the church is filled with the Holy Spirit, we shall have a purified and obedient people because the Holy Spirit is “given to them that obey him” (Acts 5:32).
When this is our case, we will be able to receive the fullness of the Latter Rain and be empowered to finish the work. Only those who live a life of obedience and victory, giving God the glory, will receive the Latter Rain:
“May the Lord help his people to cleanse the soul-temple from every defilement, and to maintain so close a connection with him that they may be partakers of the latter rain when it shall be poured out” (Gospel Workers, p. 92).
We will never be able to finish God’s work by just talking about the Holy Spirit and desiring Him. It is only after we have been purified by obedience to God’s truth that we will be able to attain the greatest power this earth has ever seen. Take note of when the Latter Rain will come:
“Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 214).
“There is nothing that Satan fears so much as that the people of God shall clear the way by removing every hindrance, so that the Lord can pour out His Spirit upon a languishing church and an impenitent congregation … Wicked men and devils cannot hinder the work of God, or shut out His presence from the assemblies of His people, if they will, with subdued, contrite hearts, confess and put away their sins, and in faith claim His promises. Every temptation, every opposing influence, whether open or secret, may be successfully resisted, “not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts’” (Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 124).
What good is it to preach about the need for the Holy Spirit if we don’t take the steps to remove the unsanctifying elements and eradicate “every opposing influence, whether open or secret”? Apostasy is an obstacle, according to God, and we must eliminate all hindrances “so that the Lord can pour out His Spirit.”
Personally, I am saddened that these critical points were not mentioned at today’s meeting in St. Louis. We are repeating the tragedy of the 1888 General Conference Session once again. While claiming to be working to see the Latter Rain poured out, we are opposing the Holy Spirit’s work. It is a shame that none of these inspiring statements, such as the following, were read:
“Those who come up to every point, and stand every test, and overcome, be the price what it may, have heeded the counsel of the True Witness, and they will receive the latter rain, and thus be fitted for translation” (Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 187).
“I saw that none could share the ‘refreshing’ (Latter Rain) unless they obtain the victory over every besetment, over pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every wrong word and action. We should, therefore, be drawing nearer and nearer to the Lord and be earnestly seeking that preparation necessary to enable us to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. Let all remember that God is holy and that none but holy beings can ever dwell in His presence” (Early Writings, p. 71).
God desires for His Spirit to influence and control His entire church. This means that the floodgates of sin, rebellion, and apostasy that we see in the church today must be replaced with victorious people who have the life-changing Spirit controlling their lives, and who will then be fit to be translated to heaven. When God can find people like this, He will pour out the Latter Rain on them. This is something that all of heaven is looking forward to. This is what God has been waiting for. This is what the faithful 7,000 who haven’t bowed their knees to Baal are pleading for, day and night. May the Lord make us into those people and finish His work.

Moin from Germany,
as I read at EGW, ..
– when the believers were in the holy place and worshiped, …
– Christ rose and asked the worshipers to come with him, …
– he then entered through the veil into the Holy of Holies, with those who followed him…
-> Who took the place that “became vacant” when Christ entered the holy of holies?
– wasn’t it “immediately” Satan who “blew out his unclean spirit” over the crowd?
….
Question : Are you standing with Christ in the Holy of Holies and worshiping God the Father ? Are you aware that you are a child of God with all the blessings of Christ?
Or are you still in the “old” sacrificial system and carrying blood into the sacred [over and over].
….
Stand up ! Let us worship the God of heaven and his Son as children of God in faith; leave everything behind and go into the most sacred; At the hand of Christ as children of God, … without judging those who want to remain in the “old system”. [Revelation 11:2]

The Seventh-day Adventist Church organization is an Apostate new organization. Which will be swept away.
“The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A NEW ORGANIZATION would be established. Books of a new order would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities, and do a wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the NEW MOVEMENT. The leaders would teach that virtue is better than vice, but God being removed, they would place their dependence on human power, which, without God, is worthless. Their foundation would be built on the sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure.
WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO BEGIN SUCH A [NEW] MOVEMENT? We have our Bibles. We have our experience, attested to by the miraculous working of the Holy Spirit. We have a truth that admits of no compromise. Shall we not repudiate everything that is not in harmony with this truth?” E.G. White, Selected Messages, vol. 1, 204-205.
“He will take his Holy Spirit from the church and Give it to OTHERS who will appreciate it.” E. G. White, (Review and Herald, Vol. 3,272).

Isaiah 56:10. “His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.”
Isaiah 9:16. “For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
Unless the church, which is now being leavened with her own backsliding, shall repent and be converted, she will eat of the fruit of her own doing, until she shall abhor herself. When she resists the evil and chooses the good, when she seeks God with all humility and reaches her high calling in Christ, standing on the platform of eternal truth and by faith laying hold upon the attainments prepared for her, she will be healed. She will appear in her God-given simplicity and purity, separate from earthly entanglements, showing that the truth has made her free indeed. Then her members will indeed be the chosen of God, His representatives. [8 Testimonies, p. 250]
May we all be part of God’s Church. His true remnant, which goes through.
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:27. – {FLB 288.1}
What are you doing … in the great work of preparation? Those who are uniting with the world are receiving the worldly mold and preparing for the mark of the beast. Those who are distrustful of self, who are humbling themselves before God and purifying their souls by obeying the truth—these are receiving the heavenly mold and preparing for the seal of God in their foreheads. When the decree goes forth and the stamp is impressed, their character will remain pure and spotless for eternity. Now is the time to prepare. The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impure man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of the ambitious, world-loving man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All who receive the seal must be without spot before God—candidates for heaven. – {FLB 288.3}

You have to precept these messages. Certain things were happening at different times warranting these statements. We have hot and cold, we have 7,000 that havent bowed their knee to baal, that’s why we will have a shaking and sifting which will be completed at the National Sunday Law. The Laodicean message tells them to change, then they can sit with God on His throne. They are not condemned yet.
What are these statements talking about? Describe to me……..
Let not the professed people of God think it a privilege to separate from conference organization, that they may show their supposed efficiency. This is entirely opposed to God’s order. There is need of perfect unity and love, and this will appear when we learn of Jesus.
It is the plan of God that every church and every conference shall cherish the feeling of reciprocal dependence. We are to build one another up in the most holy faith, seeking the impartation of the Holy Spirit, that light may be reflected in clear, bright rays.
Shall the sacred chain of dependence, which binds men together, be looked upon as slavery? Shall we allow the enemy to enter to cause discord and separation, to rob families of happiness and the church of usefulness? Shall we allow him to use us to prevent the great and blessed work of reformation? Who can say, It is well with my soul, while evil thinking and evil speaking are allowed to rule in the heart, causing disunion and strife? 16LtMs, Ms 97, 1901, par. 30 – 16LtMs, Ms 97, 1901, par.
We have been inclined to think that where there are no faithful ministers, there can be no true Christians; but this is not the case. God has promised that where the shepherds are not true he will take charge of the flock himself. God has never made the flock wholly dependent upon human instrumentalities. But the days of purification of the church are hastening on apace. God will have a people pure and true. In the mighty sifting soon to take place, we shall be better able to measure the strength of Israel. The signs reveal that the time is near when the Lord will manifest that his fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor. PH117 62.
Sherwin: Let us unite with the Church in order to finish the work…
The work of God in this earth can never be
finished until the men and women comprising
our church membership rally to the work and
unite their efforts with those of ministers and
church officers.” — Ellen G. White, Testimonies,

Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant, not the church triumphant. We are sorry that there are defective members…. While the Lord brings into the church those who are truly converted, Satan at the same time brings persons who are not converted into its fellowship. While Christ is sowing the good seed, Satan is sowing the tares. There are two opposing influences continually exerted on the members of the church. One influence is working for the purification of the church, and the other for the corrupting of the people of God.
Some people seem to think that upon entering the church they will have their expectations fulfilled, and meet only with those who are pure and perfect. They are zealous in their faith, and when they see faults in church members, they say, “We left the world in order to have no association with evil characters, but the evil is here also;” and they ask, as did the servants in the parable, “From whence then hath it tares?” But we need not be thus disappointed, for the Lord has not warranted us in coming to the conclusion that the church is perfect; and all our zeal will not be successful in making the church militant as pure as the church triumphant.—Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, 47 (1893). – {LDE 61.3}
Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant, not the church triumphant. We are sorry that there are defective members, that there are tares amid the wheat…. Although there are evils existing in the church, and will be until the end of the world, the church in these last days is to be the light of the world that is polluted and demoralized by sin. The church, enfeebled and defective, needing to be reproved, warned, and counseled, is the only object upon earth upon which Christ bestows His supreme regard. I have plenty more if you want.

It’s very sad to see the leaders of top organ of the church asking for latter rain yet they are not working for God?The likes of Ted Wilson and others who have thrived in apostacy it’s impossible for the latter rain to be poured in abundance while most of leaders in the general conference are attending ecumenical meetings inorder to appease Rome. The display of current logo bearing three flames and false bible instead of original banner bearing the three angels has clearly shown that our church has lost it’s distinction as the remnant church and other abominations that are taking place in the church. The three angels message should be preached with power like never before inorder to warn the world for the soon coming crisis upon the world. The latter rain will be poured in abundance to the faithful few within the seventh day adventist who will remain true to the word of God they will have nothing to do with the man of sin they will lay open the sins of babylon to unmask it to the world. The self supporting groups are the ones going to finish the work and not the general conference.

In 1980, the SDA Church officially adopted the trinitarian creed, after many decades of stealthy Jesuit manipulation by the likes of Froom and others. This creed is completely contrary to what our pioneers believed, and what the Bible teaches. Rather, it is a child of the Roman Catholic Church. The SDA Church claims their trinity is “not the Catholic trinity”, but in reality, they are one and the same heresy. For this reason, I believe that, yes, the so-called “Holy Spirit” that they are supplicating for WILL be at this session of the GC, but it will NOT be the Holy Spirit of the God of Heaven which proceeds forth through his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. It will be the spirit of an imposter. The Omega of heresies.
Hudiburgh says
I believe in the Godhead, have never used the word Trinity. Ellen White clearly states that there are three members of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit being one. It’s my understanding that the Catholic Trinity means the members are con-substantial, of the same substance which of course is not biblical. I’ve researched carefully what the pioneers believed. There’s an excellent video on that matter. I don’t claim to know it all, brother, I know it’s controversial subject, I just cling to the very clear biblical and Spirit of Prophecy statements.
Roland Jones says
SDA’s call the Godhead ” Trinity.” Rome’s doctrine of the Trinity is totally different from SDA Church. I would rather use the word Godhead personally, so that people like you don’t get confused about us using the word Trinity, but not the Catholic Trinity doctrine.

We must overcome sin and sinning, we must be sending on our prayers of confession and repentance now to the most holy place while Christ is still seated there. We must put an end to sin. Sometimes it would appear and very obviously too, that we don’t understand the purpose of the Early Rain in our lives before we can receive the Latter Rain. Come into our hearts Lord Jesus.

I evidently don’t know about all the sinful things done by our “church”. Who is the church? Everyone working in an SDA organization like GC, Unions, Conferences? I guess I would hesitate to bunch everyone in one pile, calling everyone evil. Since I don’t what goes on with these leaders, I’m choosing to lift them in prayer that God will guide.
Andrew Cronk says
Thanks brother Andy. Agree with all you have presented and certainly the SOP is clear as to our preparation prior to the Latter rain. 1888 remains a vital lesson for us today. It is also clear that persecution of the church according to prophecy is coming and will remove the chaff. Unfortunately things don’t go well for leaders cf Eze 9. Also, sister White’s ‘train station vision’ to name but one. We keep them in our prayers nonetheless. Thankyou for giving the trumpet that certain sound faithful watchman. Interesting read, but very sad indeed, it looks like our church have become so political and professional that everything is done as expected and is a foregone conclusion. It seems that the business session is more about the business than the character of the people doing the work and the session must be politically correct. We have a problem, in that we cannot see the problem. You rightly quoted the word of The Lord that it is not by might nor by power but by my Spirit says The Lord of hosts (Zechariah 4: 6) Our present operation has a clergy and laity divide, something which never existed when the apostles were leaders of the early church and all were lead by The Spirit receiving the gifts for ministry and there were no trained parallel to the Rabbis or Pharisees, but from the 12 apostles including Jesus, they were all untrained theologians and well read scripture laymen. It is not by the might of technology or theology nor by the power of the voting majority, nor the leadership of the clergy over the laity, but as it was with the early church, each person were seen to be a royal minister of Christ before being seen as a loving member of the church of Christ, Tithe waged or not, and each one was to be as strong as the other, coming close to Christ and each other at the same time. When there was the neglect of the Greeks among the believers, the apostles listen to the people and was moved to suggest a solution, hence the 7 deacons were chosen. Un fortunately some of the delegates raised their concern regarding CoVid 19 but unlike the apostles, the only leader acted like the Lord over the session and shut down the possible discussion, showing the love of power is greater in him than the power of love, like it was with the apostles, who subscribed to the following thought…
Do as I say and do as I do, listen to me because I am prepared to listen to you. (This is where the power of love is greater than the love of power)
unlike the leading influence in the GC session, they subscribe to the school of thought
Do as I say but not as I do, listen to me, even if I do not listen to you (this is where the love of power is greater than the power of love)
So due to the current crisis, the GC Session has become less spiritual and more political, more business like and less like brotherly and sisterly loving environment. This is The church of Christ and though it is not the way Jesus would have it, the church is not rejected and divine intervention will come back again, whenever our God is ready if necessary another type of E G White our God will bring to the front from a place where we lest expect it.
Let there be a heaven sent revival among the people of God, let Christ have his way with his church in the earth, let sacred history repeat itself and the church go full circle and the leadership of the apostles be fully restored and the revived ones experience the baptism of spiritual gifts and more besides, then Christ shall take the leadership out of the hands of the trained clergy and restore it to men and women similar to those untrained theologically in the days of the early church when the apostles had the greater influence over the church. When divine intervention, finds willing cooperation and humane participation, then will the gospel of Christ go to every nation around the globe and Christ shall build his church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church of Christ. May such a day come much sooner rather than a little later according to the divine purpose for our daily lives, may Christ fall on His church like a stone in the centre of a pond, that will ripple outwards to the circumference and ripple back towards the centre, may the majority of the revived ones do more effective ministry in the mission field finding disciples where there is no disciples and may Christ gather a bumper harvest of souls into his kingdom and a flood of potential new converts shall be like the rising tide at the entrance of the church, that there is not enough room to receive them and may we all grow up in Christ until the character of Christ is perfectly reproduced and fully developed as Paul saw it when he wrote to the believers in Ephesus (see Ephesians 4) May the will of God be done in our daily lives and may it be found that we are on The Lord’s side, Amen & Amen again, all together now, Arrrrrrrrrmen!
