Resting on Sundays is becoming more and more popular with each passing day. The movement to reclaim Sunday as a day of rest is gaining popularity all over the world. The prophetic picture painted in the book of Revelation is coming to fruition. The new movement in Muslim countries to implement Sunday rest is modeled after Western Christianity, particularly the Roman Sunday laws. You must look to the place from which it originated—Rome—in order to comprehend the true nature of Sunday rest by law.
The current days of rest for the Muslim State of Johor in Malaysia are Friday and Saturday. However, recent polls indicate that 95.7% of people support switching from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday for their weekends. Additionally, the majority of the 44,290 teachers in Johor fully support the proposal for Sunday rest. Government officials were looking to review their days of rest and the feedback from this major Muslim community has voiced its support for changing the state weekend to include Sunday. [1]
There is no doubt that the Vatican has fought for the European Union to require Sunday observance for years. [2] We also know that there is a global push behind these efforts and that they are not restricted to a single continent. Rome is the motivation behind these Sunday rest proposals. Ellen White penned the following in The Great Controversy more than a century ago:
“The dignitaries of church and State will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected. In the soon-coming conflict we shall see exemplified the prophet’s words: ‘The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ‘.” (Great Controversy, p. 592).
The world will be compelled to accept the mark of papal Rome during the mark of the beast crisis, which will be triggered by all of these current “Sunday rest” proposals. In the ancient Roman Empire, Sunday was observed as a pagan day of worship. The Roman Church incorporated this into Christianity as well. The Catholic Church then began telling everyone to rest on Sunday and keep this day holy. During the Council of Laodicea (363 AD), the Catholic Church condemned anyone who didn’t keep Sunday but instead rested on Saturday. Notice what they declared:
“Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honoring the Lord’s Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ” (Council of Laodicea, Canon 29). [3]
Not long after, Rome began using the strong arm of the state to persecute all those who disobeyed. People were forced to give allegiance to a man-made tradition above the word of God. This already happened once during the Dark Ages. The days when the future mark of the beast will be imposed on our world through repressive laws will soon be here, and this will serve as the final test. The point of contention will be between Sunday, the mark of Roman apostasy, and Saturday, the seventh-day Sabbath, the seal of the living God.
“The enforcement of Sundaykeeping on the part of Protestant churches is an enforcement of the worship of the papacy—of the beast. Those who, understanding the claims of the fourth commandment, choose to observe the false instead of the true Sabbath are thereby paying homage to that power by which alone it is commanded. But in the very act of enforcing a religious duty by secular power, the churches would themselves form an image to the beast; hence the enforcement of Sundaykeeping in the United States would be an enforcement of the worship of the beast and his image” (Great Controversy, p. 448).

Gradualism is speeding up! If any portion of the Muslim faith is willing to change their sabbath to the false sabbath of the “Divining Serpent’s,” the National Sunday is near.
