CBS revealed the utterly shocking news regarding Tyre Nichols, 29, during a January 7, 2023 fatal traffic stop in Memphis, Tennessee:
“Five former Memphis police officers have been fired and charged with murder in the death of Tyre Nichols, a Black man who died three days after a violent traffic stop … Four videos were released Friday, including footage from police body cameras and street surveillance cameras. They show officers first removing Nichols from his vehicle after pulling him over, an initial struggle when Nichols breaks loose and runs away from the officers, and then disturbing images of Nichols being restrained and beaten by five officers in an intersection. The videos show him being kicked in the head multiple times while being restrained, Tased, pepper sprayed, struck multiple times with a baton and punched.” [1]

Fox News reported the following:
“In the footage, the five Memphis officers can be seen beating the 29-year-old for at least three minutes. It appears, at times, that some officers hold Nichols while others kick or strike him. The officers can be seen pepper-spraying Nichols as he cries out, ‘Mom, Mom!’ Nichols can then be seen struggling to catch his breath, saying ‘alright,’ while the officers continue kicking his head and pepper-spraying him.” [2]
Three days after this police incident, Tyre Nichols succumbed to his injuries and died in the hospital. He was beaten to death by five police officers. Five police officers with batons, tasers, pepper spray, restraints, and guns. Five on one. Tyre Nichols never had a chance. These are the types of beatings you witness ruthless gangs carrying out.
These officers, who were also Black, certainly didn’t use “reasonable force” to take Nichols into custody. And by beating Nichols so severely that he died, they undoubtedly violated his right to a fair trial. Although Nichols was also presumed innocent until proven guilty by a jury, he didn’t live to have his day in court. There are laws against reckless driving and resisting arrest, which seems to have been the motive for his arrest; however, it appears from the videos that the officers did have numerous opportunities to restrain Nichols but instead, for whatever reason, they continued brutally beating him even after Nichols was unable to resist.
The five officers responsible for this tragedy have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. They will have their day in court. One of the attorneys representing two of the indicted former police officers expressed the following:
“I would just remind each and every person out there watching, listening, to view this with an understanding that there’s more to the story, that we will do our own investigation, we will gather information from the state that’s not available to the public and when it’s time to defend our clients, our side will come out … He also expressed concern over the harsh comments by TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) Director David Rausch regarding the video, calling it “criminal” and “appalling” … Whether this was the right timing and whether the government should be saying those things about people who are innocent until proven guilty.” [3]
The attorney representing two of the police officers says that his clients are “innocent until proven guilty.” Again, Tyre Nichols, the real victim, was dead before he was proven guilty. Unlike the five former Memphis police officers, Nichols will never get the chance to defend himself in a court of law for the alleged crimes for which he was detained.
We live in perilous times. Our world is indeed turning into a very terrifying place! Our entire population is stressed. People feel extremely unsafe and are agitated, fearful, and anxious. Violence, mass shootings, crime, and hatred abound in our world. Due to these circumstances, there is a general lack of trust among citizens, law enforcement, and government leaders.
“And upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity…men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth” Luke 21:25, 26.
“And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another” Matthew 24:10.
Our society as a whole is becoming increasingly divided. Greed is making many rich through corruption. Violence continues to wound and destroy the lives of many. The justice system is broken. Human trafficking continues to enslave women and children. Godless behavior is destroying our values and morals. And what is the cause? The Bible gives us the answer:
“Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” Matthew 24:12.
What has caused the love for each other to disappear? Iniquity! Sin is the problem—lawlessness and the rejection of morality, justice, mercy, and love. Men are reaping the consequences of rejecting God today. We have forsaken not just the Lord but also His clear teaching for us.
“Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.” Deuteronomy 4:40.
Obedience to God would mean that there would be no more need for police, prisons or any criminal justice systems because God’s commandments were not given to frustrate human relationships but rather to help us obtain the greatest possible happiness and standard of living, ever! This is what’s at the heart of the Three Angels’ Message of Revelation 14. This is the solemn message that needs to be presented to the world. We must hold up high the banner where are written the “commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12), because we are living in a day of increasing sin and lawlessness. Moral apathy is leading people to disregard God’s commandments. This is what is opening the doors to all the problems facing our world: immorality, crime, violence, greed, and vice. We are told that the greatest happiness in life is to love God and obey Him.
“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” Isaiah 32:17.
Let us keep God’s commandments and encourage others to keep them so that we can enjoy the wonderful and glorious rewards that await the faithful. But if men and women continue to disregard the sacred principles of God’s law, the leaders of society will never be able to quell the floodgate of iniquity that is rapidly filling the earth.
“Those who teach the people to lightly regard the commandments of God, sow disobedience, to reap disobedience. Let the restraint imposed by the divine law be wholly cast aside, and human laws would soon be disregarded … The civilized world would become a horde of robbers and assassins; and peace, rest, and happiness would be banished from the earth.” (Great Controversy, p. 585).

This thuggish behavior is like members of a gang attacking an innocent bystander. They hels him so he could not defend himself … Did they know him prior? It is sickening to watch. Not one had a conscience to stop the brutality! O God, why??
