As previously reported, the La Sierra University Church (Sierra Vista Chapel) will host an LGBT+ camp meeting that will feature a lively Drag Queen Brunch on November 9–12, 2023. [1] Church leaders and university administrators need to step in and stop this because if people are determined to mix Adventism with pro-drag queen events, let them go out and do this in a bar or nightclub, not in one of our places of worship.
We are all accountable, and the purpose of leadership is to provide guidance and direction and to hold individuals, organizations, and officials accountable for their actions or decisions. Leaders are also accountable to their constituencies, which include the people they serve or represent. So when LGBT+ events are scheduled in our church-owned facilities, this is not the time to neglect our God-given duties.
“The church as a whole is in a degree responsible for the wrongs of its individual members because they countenance the evil in not lifting up their voice against it” (Testimonies, Vol. 4, p. 490).
We are corporately responsible for the things that happen if we don’t say or do anything. It is a moral failure to remain quiet. What kind of church would we become if we forbid faithful pastors like Stephen Bohr who uphold the faith from speaking in our churches while allowing camp meetings that promote drag queen horror shows? If any event needs to be canceled, this camp meeting scheduled for November 9–12, 2023, fits the criteria for cancellation because the pro-LGBT+ group sponsoring it has a long history of promoting drag queens.
There are two people you can reach out to who can stop this from happening.
1- Bradford Newton (bradford.newton@adventistfaith.com) is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for La Sierra University and President of the Pacific Union Conference (PUC). La Sierra University is an organization that belongs to the PUC, which means that Bradford Newton has the authority to use his position to stop this LGBT+/Drag Queen event from taking place at La Sierra University or La Sierra University churches.
2- Jonathan Park (jonathan.park@seccsda.org) is a member of the Board of Trustees for La Sierra University and President of the Southeastern California Conference (SECC). The lively drag queen brunch and LGBT+ camp meeting will be held at a Seventh-day Adventist church under the jurisdiction of the SECC. Jonathan Park can certainly intervene and use his influence to put a stop to these aberrations of the Seventh-day Adventist faith in a church under his care.

If individual SDA’s do not let our leadership know that nothing short of disfellowship is acceptable concerning such complete abandonment of biblical standards, then all those who maintain such will likely face disfellowship for doing so in the near future. Many have tried neutrality in a crisis, but they have failed in their purpose. No one can maintain a neutral position. The followers of Christ are to separate themselves from sinners, choosing their society only when there is opportunity to do them good.
