Milwaukee churches are working to combat infant mortality through a Sunday initiative called the Strong Baby Sabbath. The initiative is focused on encouraging mothers and families to take steps to protect their infants. This event is associated with religious groups, who are utilizing Sundays as the day to reflect on the importance of having healthy babies.
WISN-TV, a television station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, reported the following:
• “In churches across Milwaukee Sunday, a message of hope was spread on the 13th annual Strong Baby Sabbath. The annual event works to raise awareness about infant mortality.” [1]
• “According to City officials, 100 babies born in Milwaukee each year don’t survive to see their first birthday. Reasons include premature birth and unsafe sleeping environments.” [1]
• “Thirty-six churches in Milwaukee participating in the Ascension Wisconsin Blanket of Love Sanctuary Program handed out educational materials to mothers and families Sunday.” [1]
• “Our children are our future and we need to take care of them,” Julia Means, a nurse working with Ascension Wisconsin, said Sunday at Ebenezer Ministry. The program not only educates expectant mothers on how to prevent infant mortality, but it also focuses on keeping mothers and their babies healthy. [1]
Strong Baby Sabbath is sponsored by various churches and takes place on Sunday as community leaders, the public, and churches come together to organize, take action, and raise awareness about the need to protect babies. These kinds of events typically involve a combination of activities, which does not exclude worshiping on Sunday. The events are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds, and they often include speeches, information, and resources to empower people on this issue of infant mortality.
How low will the churches in America go to advance their Sunday agenda? Are we going to start using new-born babies as props to help promote Sunday as the day of rest? Babies are no doubt an effective tool to help convey any message because of their innocence. Babies disarm all prejudice, and they appeal to any audience. Is the lack of Bible truth being supplemented with cute babies who will no doubt appeal to our emotions? One thing is certain: When it comes to the Sabbath question, Satan will absolutely try to manipulate our emotions.
“As the claims of the Sabbath were presented, many reasoned from the worldling’s standpoint. Said they: ‘We have always kept Sunday, our fathers kept it, and many good and pious men have died happy while keeping it. If they were right, so are we. The keeping of this new Sabbath would throw us out of harmony with the world, and we would have no influence over them. What can a little company keeping the seventh day hope to accomplish against all the world who are keeping Sunday?’ It was by similar arguments that the Jews endeavored to justify their rejection of Christ … To refute such arguments it was needful only to cite the teachings of the Scriptures and the history of the Lord’s dealings with his people in all ages.” (Great Controversy, p. 454, 455).

That was such a good quote from GC. I am always amazed at how you are able to find such fitting quotes for the subject you are writing about.
