At a time when the entire world is turning toward secularism, Rome is on a mission to foster a resurgence of its doctrines around the world, including the United States. On May 19, 2024, The Associated Press reported that Roman Catholics were participating in Eucharistic processions in California, Connecticut, Minnesota, and Texas—four states that expand the entire country in the shape of a cross. These are public worship services where the Eucharist—which, in Catholic doctrine, is the actual body of Jesus—is carried through the public square as a means of evangelization and public witness.
The Associated Press published the following:
• “A long-planned series of Catholic pilgrimages has begun across the United States this weekend, with pilgrims embarking on four routes before converging on Indianapolis in two months for a major gathering focusing on Eucharistic rites and devotions. The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is beginning with Masses and other events in California, Connecticut, Minnesota and Texas. ” [1]
• “Each procession is being led by a priest holding a monstrance — typically a sunburst-patterned vessel that displays the host, or bread wafer consecrated by a priest at Mass. The Catholic Church teaches the whole Christ is truly present — body, blood, soul, and divinity … ‘The Eucharist is actually Jesus, so for us to walk with Jesus is actually a witness to our faith in a prayerful action for unity, for peace,’ said Tim Glemkowski, CEO of the National Eucharistic Congress.” [1]
• “The pilgrimage amounts to an effort to revive a type of mass devotion that was once more common in past generations of Catholicism in the U.S. and beyond.” [1]
What we are witnessing is the resurgence of medieval Catholicism, and American Catholics are on a crusade to breathe life into the image of the beast in Protestant America. There is a movement here in the United States to promote Catholic traditions in the life of the nation. But this revival of the Eucharist is not just a devotion to a false Christ; it is also the exaltation of Sunday. The Eucharist is also profoundly linked to Sunday worship because it is on Sunday that the Eucharist is commanded to be celebrated. This is made very clear in the Catholic Catechism.
• “The Sunday celebration of the Lord’s Day and his Eucharist is at the heart of the Church’s life. Sunday is the day on which the paschal mystery is celebrated in light of the apostolic tradition and is to be observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, Section 2177). [2]
Many Catholics are indeed on a mission to revive the Church in America. A major part of this emphasis is to promote the liturgical celebration of the church, including the Sunday Eucharist. In fact, Sunday is seen as key to spiritual renewal by the churches.
“The word of God teaches that these scenes are to be repeated as Roman Catholics and Protestants shall unite for the exaltation of the Sunday” (Great Controversy, p. 578).
“When our nation shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 712).
“There is one pointed out in prophecy as the man of sin. He is the representative of Satan. . . . Here is Satan’s right hand man ready to carry on the work that Satan commenced in heaven, that of trying to amend the law of God. And the Christian world has sanctioned his efforts by adopting this child of the Papacy—the Sunday institution” (Review and Herald, March 9, 1886).
There is little doubt that Protestants and Catholics are working to revive Sunday sacredness. There have been numerous efforts showing that they are part of the global movement pushing for Sunday-keeping. Rome advocates for Sunday to be a day of rest for society to allow time for worship, spiritual renewal, and participation in the Eucharist, which they believe is essential to Christian and social life. According to inspiration, Satan is the driving force behind all efforts to reinstate Sunday as a day of worship:
“There is a satanic force propelling the Sunday movement, but it is concealed. Even the men who are engaged in the work, are themselves blinded to the results which will follow their movement” (Review and Herald, January 1, 1889).
“Not a move has been made in exalting the idol sabbath, in bringing around Sunday observance through legislation, but Satan has been behind it, and has been the chief worker” (Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, p. 977).
