Roman Catholics are reviving the Eucharistic procession in an attempt to re-energize its public evangelization. This ancient practice, which involves solemnly carrying the consecrated host through the streets, is experiencing a resurgence in Catholic communities worldwide. Through these processions, the Catholic Church is not only reaffirming its ancient traditions and doctrines but also inviting a broader audience to explore and embrace its spiritual heritage.
On Sunday, June 2, 2024, 15,000 Catholics marched, sang, prayed and distributed literature in the streets of Sydney. This was one of the largest Eucharistic celebrations in Australian history called “Walk with Christ.” Rome aspires to renew its evangelizing mission in a visible and convincing way. The Catholic Weekly published the following about the massive crowd that participated in the procession:
• “Record crowds have celebrated the largest Walk With Christ since the COVID pandemic, with more than 15,000 Catholics joining the procession through the streets of Sydney for the Feast of Corpus Christi.” [1]
• “It’s no secret that Australia aspires to host an International Eucharistic Congress, and such a public display of faith certainly adds credibility to our bid,” Bishop Umbers said.” [1]
• “Our Catholic faith is more beautiful than the world. Jesus Christ more beautiful than anyone else, and he calls you and I to be holy,’ Fr Roberto told the crowds.” [1]
• “School and parish banners flew high above the sea of congregants who marched past a combination of confused bystanders and eager onlookers stopping to record the event.” [1]
• “Yet many stopped in reverent observation at the sight of the monstrance, even joining in on prayers with smiles and admiration.” [1]
• “Director of the Sydney Centre for Evangelization Daniel Ang said the public witness was not just for the faithful, but it is an opportunity to bring the joy of Christ to the people of Sydney.” [1]
• “Today, my dear people, you have very publicly acknowledged God. Today, you have very publicly witnessed to hope and unity.” [1]
• “My dear people, you have just proclaimed to our city the gift of redemption in Christ Jesus. Not through robust argument, clever rhetoric or special effects, but simply by ‘Walking With Christ’ whom you love” [1]
The Sunday Eucharistic mass ceremony attempts to crucify Christ again and again. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that during the Eucharist, the bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ. Whereas, many Protestants view the bread and wine primarily as a symbolic act of remembering Christ’s sacrifice rather than a literal transformation of the elements. The Catholic doctrine of the Eucharist is inconsistent with the teachings of the Bible.
“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” Hebrews 10:11-14.
“The word of God is very clear on the finality of Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf. He came to make a one-time offering for sin, never to be repeated over and over again. In no other way has the Roman Catholic Church diminished the sacrifice of Christ more openly than in the claims it makes for the efficacy of the mass as a sacrifice for sins. The ceremony of mass is esteemed equal in merit to Calvary by the Catholic Church. The mass ceremony is an unbiblical system of repeated sacrifices that blaspheme Christ and invalidate His work on the cross. We will look at two Catholic sources that explain a little bit about the procedure of the Catholic mass. Notice these blasphemous words.” [2]
“The priest brings Christ down from heaven, and renders Him present on our altar as the eternal Victim for the sins of man—not once, but a thousand times! The priest speaks, and lo! Christ, the eternal and omnipotent God, bows His head in humble obedience to the priest’s command” (The Faith of Millions, pp. 255, 256, Rev. John A. O’Brien). [2]
“Thus the priest may, in a certain manner, be called the creator of his Creator, since by saying the words of consecration he creates, as it were, Jesus in the sacrament, by giving him a sacramental existence and produces him as a victim to be offered to the eternal Father” (Dignity and Duties, pp. 32–33, by St. Alphonsus Liguori, a Catholic saint, bishop, and theologian). The Remnant Church needs to fulfill its mission by actively evangelizing its community, particularly in times when falsehoods and grave errors are being widely circulated. God’s people should respond by committing themselves to pass out truth-filled books and literature with the real everlasting gospel and the present truth contained in the first, second, and third angels’ message of Revelation 14. By engaging with the community, offering sound doctrine, and providing moral guidance, we can counteract the confusion and misguidance that can lead people astray.
