Charisma Magazine, a prominent Christian publication targeting Pentecostal and charismatic audiences, advocates for observing Sunday as a day of rest, emphasizing its benefits for mental and physical health. The publication presents Sunday rest as a precious, divinely ordained gift that provides an opportunity to reconnect with faith, family, and oneself, encouraging readers to embrace and cherish this practice for its holistic benefits. Because people are increasingly interested in long-term healthful living, Sunday rest advocates are presenting this day as a vital respite from the stresses of daily life.
On July 21, 2024, Charisma magazine reported the following:
• “The Sabbath is for renewal. Similar to yearly rites of passage and other life thresholds such as birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, each Sunday is the birth of a new week with fresh opportunities for the good work the Lord equips us for.” [1]
• “Each new Sunday is a rebirth, a time for an accounting of the past while recommitting our future back to the Father who gifted them to us from the beginning.” [1]
• “The relentless pursuit of productivity often leads to burnout and diminished mental and physical health.” [1]
• “In this era of digital distractions and constant connectivity, finding moments of true connection with the Lord has become increasingly challenging. Your Sundays offer a precious opportunity to unplug from the digital noise and cultivate deeper connections—with Jesus, with loved ones, with your church family and among friends and neighbors where we have the chance to bring Jesus to a world starved for His peace and joy.” [1]
• “In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, the Sabbath offers a sanctuary of rest, renewal and reflection—a precious gift waiting to be embraced.” [1]
This is referred to as misleading advertising and fake news. Instead of referring to Saturday, a false and deceptive claim is made about Sunday. There is a widespread movement to elevate Sunday—a man-made invention—above God’s true Sabbath. Sunday worship is a departure from the biblical commandment and embraces the traditions of men. In fact, because Sunday worship contradicts God’s commands and represents the authority of Rome, it will be the mark of the beast during the final crisis.
According to God’s word, Saturday, the seventh day of the week, is the true biblical Lord’s Day. This belief is rooted in Genesis 2:2–3 and in the Fourth Commandment, which instructs believers to “remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy,” as God rested on the seventh day after creating the world (Exodus 20:8–11). Early Christians, including Jesus and his disciples, observed the Sabbath on Saturday. In contrast, Sunday worship was influenced by the Roman Emperor Constantine’s endorsement of Sunday in the fourth century as a way to distinguish Christianity from Judaism and align with pagan sun worship practices.
God’s word clearly and collectively points to Saturday as the true day of rest and worship, in perfect alignment with the will of God (Isaiah 58:13–14). True believers are called to maintain their loyalty to God’s true seventh-day Sabbath as a testament to their faith and resistance against the mark of the beast.
