Yes, Catholicism has made significant strides in American politics over the past century, reflecting a change in our political landscape. Historically, Roman Catholics faced suspicion from a predominantly Protestant population. However, over time, Catholics have become a more integrated and influential group in American public life, and the presence of one particular religious group, which is in the majority, could certainly influence decisions, particularly where Catholic doctrine might intersect with secular law.
On Tuesday night, October 1, 2024, CBS News hosted the vice presidential debates between Ohio Senator JD Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in New York. They were both asked questions about the economy, immigration, gun violence, health care, and many other issues that are common during political debates.
During the 90-minute event, both Vance and Walz made references to Roman Catholicism as they discussed national policies. The extensive world-wide media coverage they received, across television, radio, and digital platforms, guarantees that Rome remains part of the pivotal conversations when politicians are shaping public opinions.
JD Vance, a convert to Roman Catholicism, talked about how Democrats want to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions and how Kamala Harris threatened to sue Catholic nuns in order to force them to violate their freedom of conscience. Tim Walz, who grew up Catholic and became a Lutheran, talked about the days he went to Catholic Mass with his mother, who was reported to have gone to Mass every Sunday. [1]
The Catholic vote is often considered critical in U.S. presidential elections due to its size and potential to swing key battleground states. With approximately one-fifth of American voters identifying as Catholic, politicians often tailor their message to appeal to Catholic voters because they know they have the power to affect the outcome of an election. It is therefore not surprising that Vance and Walz would try to appease Catholics by demonstrating their alignment with Rome in an effort to win their support.
Without doubt, Roman Catholics have overcome historical barriers and now hold prominent roles in national discussions and American political life, influencing politics and those who govern at the highest levels. Protestant America is indeed forming an “image” of the “Roman hierarchy” (Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 4, p. 278). Prophecy foretells that Romanism will become more and more prominent until finally our legislators, including the Catholic-led U.S. Supreme Court, will undo the U.S. Constitution.
“Protestantism shall give the hand of fellowship to the Roman power. Then there will be a law against the Sabbath of God’s Creation, and then it is that God will do His ‘strange work’ in the earth” (Bible Commentary, vol. 7, p. 910).
“Our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and Republican government and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near” (Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 451).
Rome is becoming more popular and influential than ever. The world is captivated by the power it wields over American politics. As a result, a day of retribution and great sorrow looms on the horizon:
“The Protestant world will learn what the purposes of Rome really are, only when it is too late to escape the snare. She is silently growing into power. Her doctrines are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in the churches, and in the hearts of men. She is piling up her lofty and massive structures, in the secret recesses of which her former persecutions will be repeated. Stealthily and unsuspectedly she is strengthening her forces to further her own ends when the time shall come for her to strike” (The Great Controversy, p. 581).

Patrick Rampy says
Catholicism has successfully conducted demographic warfare upon Protestantism in the USA to the point that Washington D.C. is overrun with Catholics who profess to uphold traditional American values, but who actually hold allegiance to Rome, not to mention the millions of Catholics flooding over our southern border, which could be compared to how ancient Babylon was conquered. As EGW said, Protestantism (which functionally no longer exists) will learn too late what the purposes of Rome really are. We are almost to the point where Catholicism will strike.
