Top 5 is a media company that provides news, reviews, and advice on just about everything. On December 7, 2024, Top 5 published “12 Reasons” why “You Should Make Sunday Your Day of Rest” and basically claimed that Sunday is the day to “transform your life” from strengthening family ties, restoring mental health, and improving your spiritual life in the church.
Top 5 published the following list in which they framed Sunday as the ultimate day to experience all of life’s best moments while marginalizing all the other days of the week, including Saturday—God’s true day of rest and worship:
1. Recharge Your Energy – Take a break from the hustle and bustle to replenish your physical and mental energy. A day of rest helps reset your body for the week ahead, leaving you refreshed and ready to tackle new challenges. [1]
2. Strengthening Family Bonds – Sundays offer the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family. Whether it’s a shared meal, a walk, or simply relaxing together, these moments build lasting memories and deepen relationships. [1]
3. Reflect and Recenter – Use the day to reflect on the past week and set intentions for the next. Reflection helps you stay grounded and aligned with your goals, providing clarity and focus. [1]
4. Enhance Spiritual Growth – For many, Sunday is a day to connect with their faith. Attending religious services or dedicating time to spiritual practices can provide peace, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose. [1]
5. Boost Creativity – A relaxed mind is a creative mind. Use your day of rest to engage in hobbies or creative activities you love but often neglect during a busy week, like painting, writing, or gardening. [1]
6. Improve Mental Health – A break from constant demands reduces stress and anxiety. Incorporating mindfulness practices like meditation or deep breathing on your rest day can enhance overall mental well-being. [1]
7. Increase Productivity – Resting on Sunday doesn’t waste time—it invests in your future productivity. A well-rested mind and body perform better, making you more efficient during the workweek. [1]
8. Strengthen Relationships with Friends – Reconnect with friends on a Sunday. Whether through a casual meetup, phone call, or shared activity, nurturing friendships contributes to a happier, more fulfilling life. [1]
9. Enjoy Nature – Spending time outdoors on your rest day can refresh your spirit. Take a hike, visit a park, or simply sit in your backyard to soak in the calming effects of nature. [1]
10. Prioritize Self-care – Use Sunday to indulge in self-care. Whether it’s reading, taking a long bath, or enjoying your favorite meal, dedicating time to yourself is essential for overall happiness and health. [1]
11. Develop Healthy Habits – Set a routine for rest and relaxation. By consistently dedicating Sundays to unwinding, you’re building a habit that promotes balance and prevents burnout. [1]
12. Embrace the Present Moment – Sundays remind us to slow down and enjoy life as it is. Put away the to-do list, turn off notifications, and savor the little things—living in the moment is the ultimate gift to yourself. [1]
The secular media, often influenced by a deep-rooted religious bias and corporate interests, has increasingly exalted Sunday as the only time when we can enjoy life. If you analyze what is being said, it would appear that you can’t participate in self-care, family gatherings, or even enjoy nature on any other day except Sunday. By elevating Sunday as the ultimate day to experience joyful moments, including Sunday worship, the secular media is simply mirroring what Roman Catholics and Protestants have long since established—that Sunday is the universal, sacred day of rest.
Though often seen as secular and independent, the media has increasingly become mouthpieces for religious institutions, echoing their discourses and promoting their values. This alignment is evident in the way the media reinforces the doctrines of the Church, such as the sanctity of Sunday as a day of rest. By amplifying religious teachings, the media betrays its duty to report the news and instead engages in the defense of religion, often presenting the Church’s views as the universally accepted truths that must be adopted.
As we get closer to the end, all of society will be pushing for Sunday as the solution to improve public behavior, divine favor, and temporal prosperity:
“It will be declared that men are offending God by the violation of the Sunday-sabbath, that this sin has brought calamities which will not cease until Sunday observance shall be strictly enforced, and that those who present the claims of the fourth commandment, thus destroying reverence for Sunday, are troublers of the people, preventing their restoration to divine favor and temporal prosperity.” (Great Controversy, p. 590).
