The Catholic Church, under the leadership of Pope Francis, has begun a new initiative called Project Guadalupe 2031, which is a plan that calls for the Catholicization of the United States through the veneration of Mary, communication with the dead, and Sunday Eucharistic Masses. This will lead to an increase in Catholic values within U.S. society, politics, and public life. Rome’s plan is to exalt Catholic thought and identity so that the teachings of the Catholic Church can play a more prominent role in shaping institutions, laws, and moral standards.
According to Catholic News Agency, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is promoting a project aimed at increasing devotion to the Lady of Guadalupe (Mary). This plan is in line with Pope Francis’ call to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Mary’s so-called apparition with prayer, unity Masses, and the installation of 100,000 idols of Mary across the United States.
On December 13, 2024, Catholic News Agency published the following:
• “Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco is launching a project to increase devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe in response to Pope Francis’ call to prepare and pray as the 500th anniversary of the Guadalupe apparition approaches.” [1]
• “Cordileone told … of his goal of ‘informing people of this call of Pope Francis,’ which he said is ‘largely unknown’ to English-speaking Catholics.” [1]
• “To that end, the archbishop is promoting Project Guadalupe 2031, an initiative to help families enthrone Our Lady of Guadalupe in their homes. Through a new ‘Mass of the Americas,’ which will be celebrated across the country, he also hopes to encourage a devotion to Our Lady.” [1]
• “We want to promote awareness of this and invite people into this novena to instill greater devotion to Our Lady because she’s the one who always leads us to the encounter with her son.” [1]
• “We all love Our Lady no matter which side of the border we live on, what language we speak, what culture we come from,’ the archbishop said. ‘So we need to look to Our Lady as the mother who unites us all into one family of God.” [1]
• “It’s a Mass of unity,” Cordileone explained, noting that celebrations of the special Mass will be celebrated in different venues across the U.S.” [1]
• “In preparation for the anniversary, the Benedict XVI Institute is inviting families to enthrone an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in their homes. The goal? One hundred thousand home enthronements in the next three years.” [1]
• “Celebrations of the special Mass will be celebrated in different venues across the U.S. The culmination of this will be a celebration of the Mass on the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary on Oct. 7, 2025, at the Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe (Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe) in Tepeyac outside of Mexico City. The shrine was built at the site of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s appearance to St. Juan Diego in 1531, which led to the conversion of several millions of Aztecs.” [1]
The plan for Project Guadalupe 2031, obviously, is to lead millions more to convert to the worship of Mary in this generation. They are calling for more idol worship, communication with the dead, and Eucharistic Sunday masses here in the United States. In other words, Rome is still in the business of exalting human traditions above the commandments of God.
The doctrine of Mary is one of the most prominent beliefs in Catholicism. The church defends the immaculate conception of Mary, her ascension into heaven, her role as “Queen of Heaven,” and her intercessory work that they claim Mary does on behalf of sinners before God. These four doctrines make Mary another deity worthy to be venerated. This is the central teaching of the Catholic faith.
These Catholic doctrines are deeply set against the clear teachings of scripture. Jesus is the only “mediator” between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus is the only advocate with God whenever we sin (1 John 2:1). Jesus is the only one who is sitting at the “right hand” of God, “interceding” for us (Romans 8:34). It is Christ’s death on the cross and His heavenly intercession that is the most important work in the history of our universe, and He alone, not Mary, is to receive honor from the redeemed.
“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” Revelation 5:12, 13.
Mary was not slain for your sins, and she does not intercede for us when we sin. Nowhere in the Bible are we taught this. To ascribe to Mary the offices, titles, and roles that belong to Jesus is to rob Christ of the honor and glory that He alone possesses.
This is in fact a deception, and billions of people are being drawn into a snare by the enemy. The bewitching teachers of spiritualism have deceived the world with their fables, and this work is a fulfillment of prophecy:
“Satan has long been preparing for his final effort to deceive the world. The foundation of his work was laid by the assurance given to Eve in Eden: ‘Ye shall not surely die.’ ‘In the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.’ Genesis 3:4, 5. Little by little he has prepared the way for his masterpiece of deception in the development of spiritualism. He has not yet reached the full accomplishment of his designs; but it will be reached in the last remnant of time. Says the prophet: ‘I saw three unclean spirits like frogs….They are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.’ Revelation 16:13, 14. Except those who are kept by the power of God, through faith in His word, the whole world will be swept into the ranks of this delusion” (Maranatha, 166).
