Pope Francis’ papacy is being called historic because he has opened the Catholic Church to the world like no other Pope has done before. Emphasizing a common shared faith, Eucharistic worship, Sunday rest, the visible unity of the churches, solidarity and inclusion, he has sought to bridge divisions both within the Church and between different religious traditions. His encyclical Fratelli Tutti is a landmark document in this effort, calling for a universal brotherhood in which the entire world is gathered into one body. More than any other religious leader alive today, Pope Francis has worked to unite the Christian denominations and foster relationships with other religions, reinforcing the idea that all people, regardless of their background, are brothers and sisters in a shared witness and common home.
The Conversation, an independent academic news organization, published the following on February 24, 2025 about the historic papacy of Pope Francis:
• “Prior to becoming pope, he was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of Buenos Aires, and was the first person from the Americas to be elected to the papacy.” [1]
• “He was also the first pope to choose Francis as his name, thus honoring St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th-century mystic whose love for nature and the poor have inspired Catholics and non-Catholics alike.” [1]
• “The changes Francis brought to the papacy were more than skin deep. He opened the church to the outside world in ways none of his predecessors had done before.” [1]
• “In an unprecedented act for a pope, he also washed the feet of non-Christians.” [1]
• “He encouraged a more welcoming attitude toward gay and lesbian Catholics and invited transgender people to meet with him at the Vatican.” [1]
• “One such issue was related to Francis’ embrace of religious diversity. Delivering an address at the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan in 2022, he said that members of the world’s different religions were ‘children of the same heaven’.” [1]
• “Francis’ papacy has been historic. He embraced the marginalized in ways that no pope had done before.” [1]
• “And whether his reforms take root depends on his successor.” [1]
As we move closer to the final crisis, the power and influence of the papacy will continue to grow, extending beyond the Catholic Church and into global politics, economics, and interfaith relations. Pope Francis embraced the world and did all he could to make them one family. This is one of the major pieces of Bible prophecy that must come to pass in these days:
“And all the world wondered after the beast.” Revelation 13:3.
“And power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” Revelation 13:7.
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him.” Revelation 13:8.
“Because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Revelation 14:8.
“For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” Revelation 18:3.
“And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.” Revelation 16:16
“These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. “ Revelation 17:13
“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together.” Revelation 19:19
Pope Francis has done more to position the Vatican as a key player in addressing worldwide issues, drawing leaders of all faiths and nations into dialogue. His encyclicals, such as Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti, have helped to shape international policies and strengthened the Church’s authority on global matters. At the same time, the increasing push for unity and ecumenism is bringing the churches and the political world closer under the leadership of Rome, fulfilling long-standing prophetic expectations about the growing role of the papacy in end-time events.
Throughout history, the Vatican has operated as a system of power that transcends any single pope. The Bible identifies a beast-like power in Revelation 13 that seeks to unite the world under its authority, and the Vatican, led by unseen forces of darkness, continues to fulfill this role. Its influence does not rest on one individual, such as Pope Francis, but rather on an agenda driven by the Jesuit order and other forces working behind the scenes to shape global events. Even when one pope passes, another rises to continue the mission, ensuring that Rome advances its interests and influence over nations, religions, and world affairs.
Bible prophecy makes clear that this system will persist until the final crisis, deceiving the world with false unity and counterfeit peace, ultimately leading to the enforcement of policies that oppose God’s law. No matter who sits on the papal throne, the Vatican will fulfill its prophetic role, as foretold in Scripture, until Christ’s return brings its reign to an end.
“Satan determines to unite them in one body, and thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into the ranks of Spiritualism. Papists, who boast of miracles as a certain sign of the true church, will be readily deceived by this wonder-working power; and Protestants, having cast away the shield of truth, will also be deluded. Papists, Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world, and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium.” (Great Controversy, p. 588).
