In 2017, Dan Jackson, President of the North American Division (NAD), stood up before the entire General Conference Executive Committee and addressed Pastor Ted Wilson, President of the General Conference, with some very interesting words. Pastor Ted Wilson was chairing the discussions and the topic was over a “dilemma” taking place within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In the video below you can hear Pastor Ted Wilson describe the problems and divisions being created by certain “units” (individuals or entities) who have decided to “do things differently” and do things their “own way.”
Obviously this was a very solemn and important topic. How do we get people to comply with the General Conference actions and sessions? How can we restore unity when the church is being split down the middle? These were the issues being addressed. Clearly, Pastor Ted Wilson was dealing with a real and present danger within the ranks of Adventism.
However, President Dan Jackson made a passionate statement while addressing this same conference. You can hear his words in the video below.
Basically, Dan Jackson stated the following:
- His NAD has no intention of splitting the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- His NAD has no intention of starting its own denomination in North America.
- His NAD does in fact support GC policy, GC actions and GC sessions.
Really? Is President Dan Jackson of the North American Division misspeaking or are we mishearing? Dan Jackson is part of the reason why the church is split. I believe Pastor Ted Wilson was addressing members of the North American Division along with some of its Unions and Conferences in his speech regarding “non compliance.” Dan Jackson, by his actions, is supporting and encouraging non-compliance throughout the NAD. He is using his influence and position to undermine GC policy, GC actions and GC sessions on the matter of women’s ordination.
President Dan Jackson’s words to the General Conference Committee are obviously problematic, but no one from this meeting was willing to point that out. Not one of the conference, union or division presidents said anything. They were all quiet. No officers from among the top leaders of the church, no scholars, educators or other administrators said anything. Sadly, nobody wanted to address the obvious.
Now, had President Dan Jackson given this same speech to a group of kindergartners at any Seventh-day Adventist primary school, he would have been met with a roaring choir of kids shouting, “Liar! Liar! Pants on Fire!”
Kids have a way of catching adults telling fibs (lies); and they don’t have the political correctness to stay quiet. They call us out right away and there’s nowhere to hide. Maybe this is one of the reasons why Jesus said:
“And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3.
It’s a lesson I pray our people will learn; and learn quickly.
