With everything taking place in our world – destructive hurricanes, mass shootings, the secularization of the churches, doctrinal confusion, millions of children being dismembered alive in their mother’s womb, the homosexuality crisis in the clergy and in the world, the never-ending child sex-abuse crisis, the bankruptcy and closure of many churches, sex-trafficking, the growing drug epidemic and many other real tragedies – Pope Francis is calling upon the world to invoke prayers during the month of September 2019 for the health of the ocean. [1]
The call by Pope Francis to protect the oceans came while Hurricane Dorian was making its way around Puerto Rico last week. [2] It was while this massive, destructive hurricane was still approaching the Bahamas that the Pope was showing more care for the soul of the ocean and the cleansing of the seas than for the 60,000+ people who are now homeless and without food and water. [3]
Ecology has become the new religion – a religion that cares more about the seas than for the sins of humanity. The churches are lining up to push this new green gospel. So remember, during the entire month of September 2019, Pope Francis wants the world to come together to combat the deterioration of the oceans. Seriously. The pope wants “politicians, scientists and economists” to save our seas.
It is doubtful that our “politicians, scientists and economists” can significantly do anything to actually change our ocean, and it is even more doubtful that the ocean will die anytime soon. What is certain is that our world is on the path to moral depravity and destruction as witnessed day after day in the news and media. And we have been warned by Jesus to save humanity, not the ocean:
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26.
Apparently, the souls of men and women are worth more than the earth with all the oceans and seas on our planet. We know that when Jesus comes again, the souls of the saved will live forever while the earth and ocean will disappear. (2 Peter 3:10).
A remarkable phenomena is taking place in the churches today. Under the leadership of Pope Francis the churches are working together to heal the oceans – even as the spiritual health and life of society is disappearing. The attitude seems to be, “Let the seas be healed even if humanity dies?”
It is not time to pray for the ocean because ocean life is doing much better than human life. It’s time to pray for humanity. It is time to pray for conversion and repentance. It is time to pray for holiness and righteousness. It is only when the church fulfills its mission of preaching the true gospel of Christ that humanity will be able to undo all of the evils that are causing our planet to suffer.
Sin is the true cause of misery in our world. Our planet suffers because of sin and the only remedy for our world is found in the gospel of Christ. Any gospel that does not seek to save mankind is sowing confusion. Any gospel that does not seek to reconcile sinners to God is a false gospel. Too many churches have long ago abandoned the faith of Jesus. The church today only wants to talk about the pollution of the oceans while neglecting the moral pollution of sin.
When the religion of ecology is embraced the church will care more for the salvation of seaweed than for our fellow man. This is a rejection of the mission of Christ who clearly and unequivocally commands us to preach only His instructions given in His word (Mathew 28:19, 20) and to seek the baptism and conversion of all people and nations.
Instead, we are following the world and evangelizing them with another gospel. It is the gospel according to Shamu – the killer whale, and this “save the ocean” propaganda that is preempting the gospel of Jesus Christ is uniting the world with the church:
“If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed .. I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Galatians 1:9, 11, 12
