Romanism, feminism and theatrical entertainment were all on full display during a 4 night event from February 29, 2020 to March 8, 2020 at the Hole Memorial Auditorium located on the campus of La Sierra University. [1] [2] [3] The entire production cast was composed of students from the La Sierra University’s Music Department and children from the Loma Linda and La Sierra Academies – all church-owned institutions. Adventist youth were not only exposed to Romanism but also to feminism. La Sierra University presented the well-known musical called “The Sound of Music,” a film that has been embraced by the feminist movement. [5] This film depicts the story of a Roman Catholic girl called Maria, played by Julia Andrews. Maria wants to become a nun, but she’s unable to follow the rules. She is non-compliant. Maria is a free, independent and out-spoken individual who does things her own way. Sound familiar?

Because of her unwillingness to follow the rules at the convent, Maria eventually finds employment in the home of Captain Von Trapp. Maria also stands up to the Captain and breaks all the rules in his home. This sounds eerily familiar to what has been happening in Adventism. The film is filled with many feminist moments. In fact, Julia Andrews, a self avowed feminist, said in a recent interview that the character she played (Maria) was a “feminist character.”
“Andrews, who “describes herself as a feminist … considers both Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music’s Maria to be feminist characters.” [6]
‘The Sound of Music’ has become a tribute and celebration to the non-compliant, feminist spirit. This is what is being pushed upon the young minds of our students. This is not just one big coincidence. Our institutions have become contaminated with the same rhetoric of the world. We are being transformed into the marketing agencies of the feminist movement. The halls of academia in Adventism are being hijacked and the core values of our faith are being replaced.
Instead of our schools becoming a bulwark against the decaying morals of society, they have become the breeding ground for liberal ideals that are hostile to the faith. The decay of our schools would not be complete without the neutrality of our leaders. This silence guarantees that the work of eradicating the old landmarks will continue unimpeded. When this situation becomes so obvious, there is only one solution as far as God is concerned:
“If a worldly influence is to bear sway in our school, then sell it out to worldlings and let them take the entire control; and those who have invested their means in that institution will establish another school, to be conducted, not upon the plan of popular schools, nor according to the desires of principal and teachers, but upon the plan which God has specified. In the name of my Master I entreat all who stand in responsible positions in that school to be men of God. When the Lord requires us to be distinct and peculiar, how can we crave popularity or seek to imitate the customs and practices of the world?” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, pp. 25, 26).
