The Odessa American is the leading source of local news and information in Odessa, Texas. The daily newspaper, founded in 1940, has both a print and online edition. The newspaper openly encouraged its readers to worship and rest on Sunday in an article that was published on November 26, 2022. The Odessa American stated that church “worship is essential, not optional.” The newspaper expressed the following:
“Sunday is the Lord’s Day, and the Lord’s Day is the day when Christians observe the Sabbath principle. Sunday is a day to rest and worship. It’s the day the early church met together for prayer, singing, preaching, and fellowship. It’s the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, and it’s a fitting day to celebrate the miracle of the incarnation that preceded Jesus’ sacrificial death and victorious resurrection … the church gathering for worship is essential, not optional.” [1]
The strong agitation for Sunday rest, with teeth, continues at home and abroad. The Sunday movement seeks to bring all the churches under one great banner: “Sunday sacredness.” Prophecy does warn us that the “church” will be given a prominent place in the affairs of global politics. When this is done, persecution will begin for those who disagree with the Sunday rest measures that will be imposed on the world.
Securing Sunday observance for the churches is one of the ecumenical movement’s stated goals. At the same time, politicians, labor organizations, and even the secular media are urging Sunday rest for families, the environment, and workers. We are told that the fate of men, women, and children will rest on the decisions that they take during the Mark of the Beast crisis, when Sunday is made a legal requirement.
These events ought to motivate us to work with much greater diligence to spread the Third Angel’s Message at this time in history. Now is the time to work to enlighten the public on the issues of the final crisis as the Sunday-rest crusades loom large across our globe. God has revealed to us what we are to do right now:
“The Sunday movement is now making its way in darkness. The leaders are concealing the true issue, and many who unite in the movement do not themselves see whither the undercurrent is tending. Its professions are mild and apparently Christian, but when it shall speak it will reveal the spirit of the dragon. It is our duty to do all in our power to avert the threatened danger. We should endeavor to disarm prejudice by placing ourselves in a proper light before the people. We should bring before them the real question at issue, thus interposing the most effectual protest against measures to restrict liberty of conscience” (Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 452).

You must not read the SOP. EGW clearly states that the SDA church is the remnant church, and that it will go through the end.
