The Northern Caribbean University, an institution owned and operated by the Jamaica Union Conference and the Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, is scheduled to host its second cultural music concert, called Xaymaca 2.0, on March 9, 2023.
Xaymaca, also known as “Carnival in Jamaica”, is a festival that celebrates the nation’s African heritage, culture, and traditions. It features musical performances and dancing. The term “Xaymaca” is derived from the Arawak language, which was spoken by the indigenous people of Jamaica before the arrival of the Europeans.
The Xaymaca celebrations have their roots in the African traditions brought to Jamaica. The festival is a way to celebrate and honor those traditions, and it is celebrated with much fanfare throughout the nation. This celebration parallels many of the other carnival celebrations, such as Carnival in Brazil and Mardi Gras in the United States, that take place around the time of Lent. Unfortunately, these worldly celebrations have been associated with revelry, drunkenness, sexuality, and a lot of music and dancing.
These kinds of traditions should have no part in the institutions that are supposed to reflect the character and culture of heaven. With their drumming, shouting, and dancing, many of today’s festivals honoring culture and tradition share the very same characteristics found in pagan worship.
“After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.” Leviticus 18:3.
“For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made. And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God.” 2 Kings 17:7-9.

The mission field is in need of funds but instead of supporting this vital need, these “SDA’s” readily pay money to attend a festival steeped in pagan pageantry. Oh, what a day of accounting they will have to give!

This can’t be happening. What has happened to the faithful standard bearers?
Patrina Ferrigon says
Abominable act! You can’t tell the world from the Church these days! Nothing is SACRED ANYMORE. OFC JAMU will give a million and one reason why this NONSENSE is ok!
They’ll do anything for MONEY!
Jerry O'Donnell, Four Angels' Messages says
There is a spirit of worldliness coming into the church, and it must be firmly met and rebuked. Unless we humble our hearts before God, unless we seek him earnestly, we shall be overcome by the temptations of Satan; and those whom we neglect to warn, to reprove, to exhort, with all long-suffering and doctrine, will he ensnared by his devices, and we shall not be guiltless. {GW92 450.2}
