“And when they entered unto the heathen (gentiles), whither they went, they profaned my holy name … mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen (gentiles), whither they went.” Ezekiel 36:20, 21.
“Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.” Ezekiel 22:26.
Church services are closed in California, but Seventh-day Adventists may sponsor races on the Sabbath. AdventistHealth in Bakersfield, California is sponsoring a race, today, on the Lord’s Sabbath. This is a public violation against the 4th Commandment of God. They are doing this in the eyes of the world. The local media is promoting their 24-mile race, which will take place over a 48-hour period and will run through the Sabbath hours. [1] [2]
What makes this event even worse is that you have to donate money to participate in the desecration of the Lord’s Sabbath. Breaking God’s commandments is no longer free. Now you have to pay to play on Saturday. Although AdventistHealth has said the race is “free,” all participants “must make a donation to the Adventist Health of Bakersfield Foundation.” [3] So it’s not free. The Pharisees were experts at violating God’s law and covering it up with smooth words.
Here is the AdventistHealth race schedule. See how they will pay to run during all hours of Saturday. They will run 2 miles every 4 hours starting on Friday night (Sabbath) and throughout Saturday:

How can churches be closed on Sabbath due to the coronavirus lockdown, but then the state of California allows this type of race? Here’s how they are doing this. According to the rules for this race: “You must stay 6 feet away from any people you may encounter during your laps.” [3]
Oh seriously? You can sweat, breathe heavily and run while staying 6 feet away from other runners – with no mask, but you can’t sit in church with a mask, six feet away from other worshipers? Unbelievable! We cannot worship on Sabbath by staying six feet away from other people in church, but you can desecrate the Sabbath by competing with fellow runners? What an abomination!
Why do Seventh-day Adventists support such things? “Oh, it’s about raising money for people.” Do we have to raise money by breaking the Sabbath and encouraging others to do so? Can funds only be raised by running on the Sabbath? These foolish gimmicks will do more harm than good. These things happen when those in leadership have become hostile to our fundamental beliefs and practices. We are rejecting the clear teaching of God’s word:
“If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words.” Isiah 58:13.
“Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” Isaiah 58:14.
The reason these things are happening is because we are in the Omega of Apostasy. More than 100 years ago it was predicted that this attitude would take place in the church just before the coming of Christ:
“A new organization would be established. Books of a new order would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities, and do a wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it.” (Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 204).
When we “lightly regard” the Sabbath we are not rejecting a day, we are rejecting the Lawgiver who gave us the commandment. We are rejecting the seal of the living God. We are disowning Christ. And we are encouraging the world to do the same:
“Deal faithfully with wrongdoing. Warn every soul that is in danger. Leave none to deceive themselves. Call sin by its right name. Declare what God has said in regard to lying, Sabbathbreaking, stealing, idolatry, and every other evil. “They which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:21. If they persist in sin, the judgment you have declared from God’s word is pronounced upon them in heaven. In choosing to sin, they disown Christ; the church must show that she does not sanction their deeds, or she herself dishonors her Lord. She must say about sin what God says about it. She must deal with it as God directs, and her action is ratified in heaven.” (Desire of Ages, pp. 805, 806).
