Juan Carretero is a retired pastor who is still recognized by the Spanish Union of Seventh-day Adventist Churches as an honorary/emeritus ministerial licensed pastor. [1] Over the years, he has been a highly active representative of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at many ecumenical gatherings since his retirement. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] Recently, on three consecutive days and at three different venues between January 22–24, 2022, Seventh-day Adventist pastor Juan Carretero participated in a variety of ecumenical events in Zaragoza, Spain.
Event #1 – January 22, 2022 – Saint Philip and James the Minor Catholic Church
January 22, 2022 – Inside the Roman Catholic Church, church leaders impart a joint multifaith religious blessing on the ecumenical participants. Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Juan Carretero, red arrow, joined them.

A united interfaith pastoral benediction is seen in the image above. Leaders from many denominations, including Roman Catholics, Evangelicals, Anglicans, and Seventh-day Adventists, lifted their hands in unison to bless the people.
Event #2 – January 23, 2022 – Zaragoza Anglican Church
Pastor Juan Carretero, red arrow, sits and listens during his second day of ecumenical encounter with the same interfaith participants on January 23, 2022 at the Zaragoza Anglican Church in Zaragoza, Spain.

Despite the fact that the second encounter took place in an Anglican Church, the event was sponsored by both the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Church, according to the Facebook post above. The first reading was announced by the Anglican Church. The second reading was given by the Catholic Church. The attendees then said the Lord’s Prayer and the Nicean Creed (which confesses one Holy Catholic Church—more on this below). Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Apostolic Community Open Borders, the Russian Orthodox Church, the United Methodist Church, and the Chemin Neif Community were also present, according to the post.
Event #3 – January 24, 2022 – Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church
On January 24, 2022, Seventh-day Adventist Pastor Juan Carretero joined the Roman Catholic Archbishop Carlos Manuel Escribano Subías along with Orthodox and Evangelicals, to promote the work of full “visible unity” while at the Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Zaragoza, Spain. Pastor Juan Carretero is sitting here in front of the Papal candle.

This ecumenical encounter was documented on video by the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They emphasized the importance of adhering to the Second Vatican Council’s Ecumenical Decree right at the start of the event.
Minute 7:21 – “From the Episcopal delegation of Ecumenism, we want to thank the parish community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel for the welcome they gave us, as well as all the facilities given for the celebration of this interfaith ecumenical prayer. This act is part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, a week that has been celebrated in Zaragoza for years and that is prepared jointly with a team of pastors and ministers from various Christian confessions with whom they collaborate throughout the course in carrying out other acts of prayer in common, training, celebrations, and other activities. Over time, this team has grown, having achieved a climate of true spiritual ecumenism among its components. As the Decree on Ecumenism of the Second Vatican Council says, it is the soul of all ecumenism.”
Second Vatican Council? What about the Second Angel’s Message? The solemn message of the Second Angel of Revelation 14:8 is being replaced with the false teaching of the Second Vatican Council. The Decree on Ecumenism of the Roman Catholic Church says, “Come in,” which is the absolute opposite of God’s “Loud Cry Message” of Revelation 18:4, which says, “Come out.” What are we doing here? Under the influence of the Latter Rain, Revelation 14:8 and Revelation 18:4 are God’s final messages to the world. This is a solemn and serious message, similar in nature to Noah’s warning about the impending global flood.
But what is going on right now? Many churches, conferences, unions, and Division and General Conference leaders are obliterating this message, effectively saying, “We don’t need God’s word.” What are Adventists doing in many places? They’re undermining God’s invitation to “come out.” Some people have completely abandoned it. We don’t want to convey the message of the First Angel. We’re bypassing the Second Angel. And we want to reassess the Third Angel. How will we ever be able to give the Loud Cry, which is a combination of the three?
We’re focusing on ecumenical messages that are newer, friendlier, and non-offensive. However, we must remember that the Three Angels’ Messages predate the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Adventism was founded on these messages which existed before the movement. This means that we don’t have the authority to disparage, dismiss, or replace the true faith. No committee, pastor, or group of leaders has the authority to alter or ban long-standing biblical truth. If our people actually understood our message and were proclaiming our fundamental truths, we wouldn’t be in bed with the Antichrist, we would be in heaven.
“Had the purpose of God been carried out by His people in giving to the world the message of mercy, Christ would, ere this, have come to the earth, and the saints would have received their welcome into the city of God” (Testimonies, Vol. 6, p. 450).
During the ecumenical conference, the Pope’s representative, Roman Catholic Archbishop Carlos Manuel Escribano Subas, said the following:
Minute 8:40 – “Brothers and sisters, as we gather today to pray for the visible unity of the Church, we join Christians who live their faith in any corner of the planet.
Make no mistake about what their aim is. They are working to create the full visible unity of all the churches. This is not Adventism. This is not Protestantism. And it’s certainly not apostolic Christianity. This is the wine of Babylon, coming straight out of the harlot’s cup of indignation. The Roman Catholic Archbishop continued:
Minute 10:26 – “Today we offer ourselves to him and ask him to send his Holy Spirit upon us. Everyone. Unite us, Lord, who comes from the North and the South, from the east and the west. To the young and the old, to men and women, so that all, together, we prostrate ourselves before you and adore you, recognizing you as our heavenly king.”
After these words were spoken, all of the churches represented made a joint statement. This was a public spiritual confession and repentance about rejecting the past and embracing a new path:
Minute 14:36 – “We have been selfish. We have put our own needs first and we have made them prevail over our commitment to justice. We have built walls between us and we have sown the seeds of distrust towards others.”
Minute 15:08 – “We have distinguished people based on their ethnicity, their religion, or their gender, and we have maintained that Jesus is on our side in the fight against the other. We ask you, Lord, for our thoughts and actions. Accept our repentance.”
Accept our repentance? For what? For sharing God’s truth? We have already been told not to go down the path of apologizing for God’s final warning message:
“We are not to cringe and beg pardon of the world for telling them the truth: we should scorn concealment. Unfurl your colors to meet the cause of men and angels. Let it be understood that Seventh-day Adventists can make no compromise. In your opinions and faith there must not be the least appearance of waverings: the world has a right to know what to expect of us” (Evangelism, p. 179).
Again, God tells us that we are to have nothing to do with consequences or how the world reacts to His message. We are told to declare God’s word and leave all the consequences to Him:
“The Lord gives a special truth for the people in an emergency. Who dare refuse to publish it? He commands His servants to present the last invitation of mercy to the world. They cannot remain silent, except at the peril of their souls. Christ’s ambassadors have nothing to do with consequences. They must perform their duty and leave results with God” (Great Controversy, p. 609).
After this “woke” spiritual exercise, in which all of the participants apologize, they all stood together to proclaim their faith. They recited what sounded like a summary of the Nicean Creed, or at the very least the points of faith on which they all agree. A Roman Catholic priest presided over the reading, leading the various churches, including Adventists, in declaring the “faith”:
Minute 39:21 – “Let us proclaim our faith. I believe in God, the Almighty Father, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord; who was conceived by the work and grace of the Holy Spirit. He was born of the Holy Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate. He was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into hell. On the third day, he rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there, he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the flesh, and everlasting life. Amen.”
This is NOT our faith. When Catholics talk about the Holy Virgin Mary and the saints, they understand that these people are alive in heaven, interceding for us before God; therefore, we must pray to them. When Catholics talk about forgiveness of sins, they are referring to confessing their sins to a human priest rather than to Jesus Christ, our heavenly priest. And when Rome talks about the “Holy Catholic Church,” they are NOT referring to the universal body of believers; no, they are referring to those who are under the authority of the pope, his cardinals, his bishops, and his priests.
This is what ecumenism leads to. It brings us to Rome and subjects us to the Pope. True Adventism publicly confesses and proclaims its biblical faith. This practice has existed since the very first Seventh-day Adventist came out of the fallen churches. It is time for the leadership and the laity to revive our historic mission and message.
We also need to distinguish between people who call themselves Adventists but do not follow the core teachings. The faithful must not obey or follow the example of unfaithful leaders who defend and promote Romanism instead of defending Adventism. How much biblical authority does heresy have? None. Furthermore, all decisions made by individuals who embrace and promote heresy are null and void, and as far as God is concerned, worthless.
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8.
Today we are witnessing with our own eyes the proclamation of an ecumenical, modern and anti-gospel message. This brings down the anathema (curse) of God. Therefore, the faithful must require their pastors and leaders to read and teach the historic principles of the faith, not the new confessions in Rome’s ecumenical movement.
“God will arouse His people; if other means fail, heresies will come in among them, which will sift them, separating the chaff from the wheat. The Lord calls upon all who believe His word to awake out of sleep. Precious light has come, appropriate for this time. It is Bible truth, showing the perils that are right upon us. This light should lead us to a diligent study of the Scriptures, and a most critical examination of the positions which we hold” (Counsels to Writers and Editors, p. 40).
We must be aware of the fact that some who currently hold positions in the church have indulged in heresy. Some who are in positions of power have abused their positions by forcing their heresy on their subordinates, ultimately leading people down the path of apostasy and eternal ruin.
We need courageous Seventh-day Adventists, true men and women, who will ask their elders and pastors to publicly confess and proclaim the faith we used to hear – the sanctuary message, the investigative judgment, biblical righteousness by faith, the Law of God, the true Sabbath of God, the fall of Babylon, the mark of the beast, the imminent return of Jesus and other historic truths. There will be a revival and it will arise from somewhere, but any revival and reformation must begin by demanding a revival of the “faith that was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 1:3).
“There is altogether too little of the Spirit and power of God in the labor of the watchmen. The Spirit which characterized that wonderful meeting on the Day of Pentecost is waiting to manifest its power upon the men who are now standing between the living and the dead as ambassadors for God. The power which stirred the people so mightily in the 1844 movement will again be revealed. The third angel’s message will go forth, not in whispered tones, but with a loud voice” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, 252).
“Those who engage in the solemn work of bearing the third angel’s message, must move out decidedly, and in the Spirit and power of God, fearlessly preach the truth, and let it cut. They should elevate the standard of truth, and urge the people to come up to it . It has been lowered down to meet the people in their condition of darkness and sin. It is the pointed testimony that will bring up the people to decide. A peaceful testimony will not do this. The people have the privilege of listening to this kind of teaching from the pulpits of the day. But God has servants to whom he has entrusted a solemn, fearful message, to bring out and fit up a people for the coming of Christ. There is as great a difference in our faith and that of nominal professors, as the heavens are higher than the earth.”(Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 2, p. 300).

I read this and wept! How sad it is to see our clergy and others leaving the SDA Church, and they don’t even know it. On the other hand, he could have been, and may still be, a Jesuit that infiltrated our church many years ago, and has been a “catholic” all along. Either way, he has caused much damage to the true church, and he will have to stand before Christ in the judgement for his actions.
He or no one else can stop the Three Angels Message from going to the world. God will not allow it! We must press on toward the prize, and keep our eyes on Jesus, our High Priest and Redeemer. We have only seen the tip of the iceberg. EGW said, “Hit it head on”. This is just the beginning of sorrows. It will all be worth it when we are standing on the sea of glass in the Holy City!!!
Donna Meyer says
Sadly, we are witnessing blatant apostasy by our SDA leaders now taking place in many countries around the world. And where is the REBUKE from those in authority? Or are they too, bowing down to Rome? If possible our reformers and SDA pioneers would be turning over in their graves. While this is very sad, we can actually be glad and prepare because we know that Jesus is coming soon, perhaps even sooner than we think. May the Lord strengthen us to be faithful unto dearth.

?????????????

I think it is time we started holding all our church workers accountable. They are our servants and not masters. They cannot be left to run wild and free, crucifying our Lord Jesus Christ afresh.
I suggest we begin to call for their resignation, globally, any pastor that embarrases the Church and her Lord by parleing with Rome or ecumenism shou be relieved of that responsibility of pastoring God’s church.
Shabany Angolwishe says
This is so sad, it is so embarassing! Regardless of what our ancient men are doing though, we know the Lord is in control of His church. The time of harvest will weed out all tares, then the church will go out conquering and to conquer.
The leaders in our church have betrayed their trust:
The class who do not feel grieved over their own spiritual declension, nor mourn over the sins of others, will be left without the seal of God. The Lord commissions his messengers, the men with slaughtering weapons in their hands: “Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.”
Here we see that the church—the Lord’s sanctuary—was the first to feel the stroke of the wrath of God. The ancient men, those to whom God had given great light, and who had stood as guardians of the spiritual interests of the people, had betrayed their trust. This shows us that we must not look to men for example. We need to stay our faith upon God; for there is just before us a time that will try men’s souls.
