I do not understand the silence of the church when hundreds of people are being arrested, beaten and shot for simply participating in peaceful protests in the nation of Cuba. Is it so difficult to give a few words of encouragement to the people suffering under the heavy yoke of a communist regimen? Why is it that Adventist News Network, the official news channel of the General Conference, praised the “power” of the “peaceful protest” during the Black Lives Matter campaign of 2020 [1], but now the church is characterizing the human rights crisis in Cuba as the work of “anti government protests?” Why does the church now tell its people “not to engage in political issues” because the Seventh-day Adventist Church has “enjoyed good relations” with the Cuban government? When will religious liberty leaders in the church condemn the repressive human rights violations of the Cuban government? Could Ganoune Diop stop his lovefest with ecumenism and take time to condemn these blatant violations of civil liberty in a neighboring country just 90 miles from the United States? Human lives are suffering right now under the yoke of this oppressive communist regime. Where is the religious liberty director? Where is all his talk about the human dignity of each person? And where are all the other defenders of freedom?

And most importantly, why is the church politicizing these egregious violations of human rights? Why are we talking about good relationships with the communist government while dismissing the oppressed of Cuba as “anti government protesters?” Why are we always on the wrong side of history? Adventist Church leaders all across the world must stand together unapologetically for freedom and hope. The Cuban people are risking their lives in their struggle for freedom and they need robust support, not weak political rhetoric.
It is very disappointing to see Adventist News Network trying to downplay the situation in Cuba. They also reported the following:
“The protests, which began on July 11, are a result of power outages, continued lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the scarcity of food and medicines.” [2]
Power outages? COVID-19? No. The Cuban people are not outraged that they do not have vaccines. They are outraged that they have lived under communism for more than 60 years. They are rejecting the entire Marxist utopia. And the official Adventist news media calls them “anti-government protesters.” This is political spin, and it’s disappointing and untrue and only serves the interests of the communist oppressors. The Cuban people are not “anti government” protesters. They are against a repressive communist dictatorship. Why can’t we call it what it really is? The Cuban people want to be free from the suffering they have endured since 1959.
BLOODY CUBA: Castro’s repression thugs have unleashed indescribable violence on Cuban protestors. Brutal beatings, torture, disappearances, arrests and killings are underway in the communist island. Crimes against humanity! The world must see and act. Where is US media? #SOSCuba pic.twitter.com/Va3SplXlWZ

It is a totalitarian government that is abusing and repressing the Cuban people. The hungry and desperate citizens are NOT trying to oppose civil government; no, they are opposing absolute tyranny. Are we only concerned about the oppressed that come from Central and South America who will vote Democrat? Shouldn’t we also be concerned about those who are conservative and reject Marxist socialist ideologies, many of the same failed policies that the Joe Biden administration, Pope Francis and other globalists currently embrace?

Cuban citizens have already been kidnapped and killed. They are arresting people and torturing others. This abuse has gone on for too many years. If we don’t pay attention and denounce this, these same civil rights abuses by government leaders will come here to the United States. This is what some want to turn America into. Plans are already in place to completely silence, subjugate and persecute all those who will also oppose the upcoming “Great Reset.” The government crackdown that we are witnessing in Cuba today will soon come to a neighborhood near you. This is what some are planning for our nation.
“The wrath of Satan increases as his time grows short, and his work of deceit and destruction will reach its culmination in the time of trouble. Fearful sights of a supernatural character will soon be revealed in the heavens” (Great Controversy, p. 623).

One legitimate concern of Adventist leadership is not to place Cuban members in jeopardy by their comments. By speaking against the government they can make things far worse for them.

The Christian Churches stayed quiet in the face of evil during the Nazi Holocaust. Today they lament and apologize for this inaction of not saying anything.

Hard to believe (but it shouldn’t be) that Christians should think this way. There is no legitimate concern about staying silent here, especially considering the hypocrisy pointed out in the article. No wonder the church is pathetically impotent. Let’s see how you act when you find out a family member has been abused. “Oh, but if I say something, the (parent/grandparent/uncle/aunt/neighbor/foster parent, etc.) will treat the kid far worse!” Yeah, let’s just not say anything. Then we’ll see what you say when you face your Maker some day and He asks you why you didn’t defend the fatherless, the widow, and the oppressed. Unconscionable.

We are to call sin by it’s name. If we are silent on this issue we are compliant to accepting what is going on. Jesus did not hold back in telling the religious leaders they were wrong for oppressing the people…treating the poor unjustly, etc. So, we today should not be silent on these issues. The church wants to hide behind this being a “political” issue, but this is not political it’s humanitarian. Sadly, most will only raise their voices when the oppression impacts them directly.

Terrific article! That is the type of info that should be shared
