Our churches are being reduced to a dance show as our people are mimicking the world’s customs. We want to embrace everything the world perceives to be fun and exciting and incorporate it into our church services. There are several videos circulating on YouTube that depict the famous funeral pallbearers from Ghana, Africa, and their worldly dancing. These videos have literally generated hundreds of millions of views online as this coffin dancing has gone viral.
This is who Seventh-day Adventist youth in Brazil are trying to imitate. Adventists play the exact same dance song, wave the same handkerchiefs, and act like clowns. As seen in the video below, the same blaring dance music that is played in dance clubs was being played on the sound systems of the church inside the temple:
Even more disturbing is the audience’s joy and applause as they scream at the start of the coffin dance at the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The holiness, reverence, and awe that are supposed to exist in our houses of worship have been replaced by worldly dance and secular music. Welcome to the future. This is what some envision for our young people. This is not preparing our youth to live in fellowship with the angels in heaven. No, this is preparing them to become part of the world.
You can’t put all the blame on the young people. Church officials are also responsible. They allow this, they tolerate it, and if they provided the sound system or gave permission for this, then they are encouraging this type of behavior.
“The coming of Christ will take place in the darkest period of this earth’s history. The days of Noah and Lot pictured the condition of the world just before the coming of the Son of man…Not only is Satan leading the world captive, but his deceptions are leavening the professed churches of our Lord Jesus Christ. The great apostasy will develop into darkness deep as midnight.” (Christ Object Lessons, p. 414).
Other young people and children are being seduced and subjected to this in the church! Why do we allow all the sanctity of worship to be destroyed by these worldly demonstrations? Evil spirits are coming into our institution, and who is going to stop this? Where are the spiritual leaders? Are we more concerned about hurting people’s feelings that we would rather offend a holy God? Is there not anyone left within Adventism who has a little righteous indignation towards this kind of corrupt display?
“Eternal things have little weight with the youth. Angels of God are in tears as they write in the roll the words and acts of professed Christians. Angels are hovering around yonder dwelling. The young are there assembled; there is the sound of vocal and instrumental music. Christians are gathered there, but what is that you hear? It is a song, a frivolous ditty, fit for the dance hall. Behold the pure angels gather their light closer around them, and darkness envelops those in that dwelling. The angels are moving from the scene. Sadness is upon their countenances. Behold, they are weeping. This I saw repeated a number of times all through the ranks of Sabbathkeepers, and especially in —–.” (Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 505, 1867).
What we see happening in Brazil is not an isolated incident. It’s happening everywhere. It’s happening in churches and schools all across the world. Our young people are being swept away by society’s corrupt, worldly culture, and those in responsible positions are letting it happen. Some church leaders are actually guiding our youth down this destructive path. Unless we repent and ask God to give us the moral fortitude to actually take real steps to stop this assault against our people, the flood-gate of apostasy will continue to sweep away all the spirituality and sacredness of the movement. We will not receive the seal of the living God if we encourage this behavior, make excuses for it, or remain neutral during a time of spiritual crisis. Instead, we will perish in the general destruction of the wicked:
“Who are standing in the counsel of God at this time? Is it those who virtually excuse wrongs among the professed people of God and who murmur in their hearts, if not openly, against those who would reprove sin? Is it those who take their stand against them and sympathize with those who commit wrong? No, indeed! Unless they repent, and leave the work of Satan in oppressing those who have the burden of the work and in holding up the hands of sinners in Zion, they will never receive the mark of God’s sealing approval. They will fall in the general destruction of the wicked … Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by a mark by the man in linen, are those ‘that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done’ in the church. Their love for purity and the honor and glory of God is such, and they have so clear a view of the exceeding sinfulness of sin” (Testimonies, Vol. 3, p. 267).

I’m really saddened and shocked to see this. It actually scares me when i realize how far we are from God’s will and i am so fearful for our youth.

Soon these apostates will be dancing around the golden calf. Nothing new under the son.

I’m more concerned about the glorification of death than the dancing. At the end time, the last thing that Jesus conquers is the ultimate enemy, death.
John Trainor says
Just watched the video, “How God has led in my life with Andy Roman.” Agree with every word. Regarding fulfillments have long thought the comparison of these two statements about 100 years a part illustrate a remarkable fulfillment:
Roman Catholic principles will be taken under the care and protection of the state. This national apostasy will speedily be followed by national ruin.–RH June 15, 1897.
“The best way to honor Pope John Paul II, truly one of the great men, is to take his teaching seriously; is to listen to his words and put his words and teachings into action here in America. This is a challenge we must accept.” – President George W. Bush, March 21, 2001.

Oh please! The article is totally out of context. Can’t you tell the difference between what the Ghana group does and these amateurish individuals simply involved in a skit of some sort? You cannot be serious about being serious about everything. I have always appreciate what the Ghanaian do from the Motherland, and they’re carrying a real body! That takes skill, strength and heart. I applaud whatever is going on in the church because I’m sure a lesson was learned, but I don’t speak Portuguese. While Advent Messenger is usually on target about most things, they simply missed the mark here. Besides, too much emphasis is placed on the dead anyway. Get over it!
LINDA F TAYLOR says
And I suppose you are also for WO, and women elders, etc? How can you say this is silly, and we should “get over it”? What is next, the “dead” dancing down the isles of our churches? What is the meaning behind all of this rubbish? Satan is setting the church up for a reason. Dancing with a coffin on our shoulders is just down right spiritualism! The dead know nothing, they do not praise God.
If you think this is just “silly”, beware of the future events. You will probably think that Satan impersonating Christ will be “silly” too! You seemed to have lost your way, or are you not a Seventh-day Adventist???

Exactly!!

“As the truth is brought into practical life, the standard is to be elevated higher and higher, to meet the requirements of the Bible. This will necessitate opposition to the fashions, customs, practices, and maxims of the world. Worldly influences, like the waves of the sea, beat against the followers of Christ to sweep them away from the true principles of the meekness and grace of Christ; but they are to stand as firm as a rock to principle. It will require moral courage to do this, and those whose souls are not riveted to the eternal Rock, will be swept away by the worldly current. We can stand firm only as our life is hid with Christ in God. Moral independence will be wholly in place when opposing the world. By conforming entirely to the will of God, we shall be placed upon vantage ground, and shall see the necessity of decided separation from the customs and practices of the world. We are not to elevate our standard just a little above the world’s standard; but we are to make the line of demarcation decidedly apparent.
There are many in the church who at heart belong to the world, but God calls upon those who claim to believe the advanced truth, to rise above the present attitude of the popular churches of today. Where is the self-denial, where is the cross-bearing that Christ has said should characterize His followers? The reason we have had so little influence upon unbelieving relatives and associates is that we have manifested little decided difference in our practices from those of the world. Parents need to awake, and purify their souls by practicing the truth in their home life. When we reach the standard that the Lord would have us reach, worldlings will regard Seventh-day Adventists as odd, singular, strait-laced extremists. ‘We are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.'” (FE 288.2 – FE 289.1)

It may have been a skit and perhaps a relevant message. But it wasn’t reverent.

This is one of the most disrespectful things I’ve seen members do in one of our churches. I don’t know who those people think they are, but they’re not Adventist. Not in any sense of the word. They need to be told to cease and desist this kind of “worship”, or to close their doors all together. God will not be mocked. As long as members and conference leaders allow this type of behavior, it will only get worse. The only one pleased with this behavior is Satan. This is not who we as God’s remnant people are.
Jean says
This is not a worship service. It is a lesson of some kind. There is no body in the “coffin”.
It is too bad we don’t speak there language. If we did we might not be so quick to judge.

When the people saw the the angel, leading the animals in to the ark they were not impress, it was business as usual, many SDA, are waiting until they are washed off the ark into the water of destruction before they believe they are waiting to use their hammers of doubt to break down the ark to gain entry.Turn and repent is the message for today.

FOR SURE THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOUR IN THE ADVENTIST CHURCH IS NOT ONLY UNACCEPTABLE BUT DEVILISH .WE MUST BE WEARYOF THE DEVIL AND HIS AGENTS OF DOOM AS WE ALLOW SUCH KIND OF BEHAVIOUR IN THE PRESENCEOF GOD.SURELY THE ANGELS WILL WATCH FROM A DISTANCE BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT BEAR THE PAIN.WHERE ARE THE ELIJAHS AND THE GIDEONS OF OUR TIME,GOD FORGIVE OUR SINS.

I suppose the General Conference need to step in to provide guidance. If GC ignore, such may go viral and other SDA churches may go their way doing similar activities.

may you provide with the details of this church, conference involved and the division so that we condemn these actions. This is abomination
