On Friday evening, May 10, 2019 just before the Sabbath, our website disappeared. We were notified by Google and others that it was suspended due to “malicious content.” Apparently, a very determined person hacked into what we thought was a pretty secure website, and infected it with malware designed to cause the site to get blacklisted/suspended.
The hacker infected our site with a malicious code that was creating thousands of fake pages on AdventMessenger.org that would redirect visitors to some pretty horrible websites. People who do this know that infected websites will get instantly banned.
These things are happening in our world every day and it’s something one has to prepare for. We always keep cloned copies of our website offline for this very purpose. So instead of trying to figure out how badly our website has been infected, we just delete everything and start with a fresh, clean copy of our cloned site. The problem was resolved within an hour of being attacked.
What took so long (2 days) for the suspension to be lifted was due to the hosting company. The hosting company could not lift the ban until a manual review was done to make sure there wasn’t any more malware in our web files. And being that the weekend had just started, there wasn’t any urgency on their part to do things quickly. We will be getting a new hosting company.
So we are back online and we plan to have a lot to share with you this coming week. Thank you for your prayers, your patience and your concerns.
Blessings,
Andy
