On May 3, 2023, a Seventh-day Adventist academy in Talca, Chile, proudly announced that 51 of its graduates would be attending a Catholic university. The Catholic University of Maule (UMC), which provided the Adventist youth with honorary scholarships, was established by Bishop Carlos González, a Jesuit-trained theologian. [1]
Adventist Academy Talca posted the following on their social media page:
“Recognition: HONORARY ADMISSION SCHOLARSHIP – We are very happy to tell you that last week the Catholic University of Maule awarded 51 students who achieved first place in each of the careers in the 2023 admission process, thanks to their good performance in the Entrance Test to Higher Education (PAES) … We are happy about your achievements and that your small efforts bear pleasant fruits. May God continue to guide your steps firmly.”
In the spirit of Vatican II, the Catholic Church has embraced an open approach to Protestants. The Papacy is on a mission to break down barriers between itself and the separated brethren. What better way than to offer them a free Catholic education? While Catholic universities offer a wide range of academic subjects, it is also true that they provide religious-based instruction. It’s also true that Catholic schools spend a lot of time celebrating church festivals such as Christmas, Easter, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, All Saints’ Day, and many others. Catholic universities are affiliated with different religious orders, and they certainly recruit and expose their students to the mass, Sunday worship, Mary, and other religious observances.
What would be the Roman Church’s strategy? Rome has never abandoned its century-old dogmas, for which Protestants believe there is no scriptural authority. So if Rome isn’t changing, it is clear that the Roman Catholic hierarchy is on a radical mission to change Protestants. The goal of Catholic education is to shape and mold its students in the image of Rome. And this is precisely what no Seventh-day Adventist parent must ever allow. The Vatican is trying to integrate all faiths into the Roman Catholic Church. They consider this to be their calling, and they believe that offering free honorary scholarships is the safest and most effective way to change people’s minds.
It is working because Adventist educational leaders in Chile are “very happy” with these developments. They see their students going to get Catholic training as progress. Maybe they are going to receive absolution from the priests too. Do we want to expose our children to this? Will Adventist educators simply sweep all the differences between Catholics and Protestants under the rug and ignore the Holy Scriptures? One thing is certain: If we want to pretend that this is OK because we all believe in Jesus anyway, we will have no one to blame if soon we see many of these Adventist youth convert to Catholicism and join the Catholic faith. Rome will be developing their spirituality and confusing them with false doctrines.
“The accession of the Roman Church to power marked the beginning of the Dark Ages. As her power increased, the darkness deepened. Faith was transferred from Christ, the true foundation, to the pope of Rome. Instead of trusting in the Son of God for forgiveness of sins and for eternal salvation, the people looked to the pope, and to the priests and prelates to whom he delegated authority. They were taught that the pope was their earthly mediator, and that none could approach God except through him, and, further, that he stood in the place of God to them, and was therefore to be implicitly obeyed … Sin was disguised in a garb of sanctity. When the Scriptures are suppressed, and man comes to regard himself as supreme, we need look only for fraud, deception, and debasing iniquity. With the elevation of human laws and traditions, was manifest the corruption that ever results from setting aside the law of God” (Great Controversy, p. 55).

I am much afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the heart of the youth.
I advise no one to place his child where the scriptures do not reign Paramount.
Every Institution in which means are not unceasingly occupied with the word of God must be corrupt.

The church that holds to the word of God is irreconcilably separated from Rome. Protestants were once thus apart from this great church of apostasy, but they have approached more nearly to her, and are still in the path of reconciliation to the Church of Rome. Rome never changes. Her principles have not altered in the least. She has not lessened the breach between herself and Protestants; they have done all the advancing. But what does this argue for the Protestantism of this day? It is the rejection of Bible truth which makes men approach to infidelity. It is a backsliding church that lessens the distance between itself and the Papacy. – ST February 19, 1894

I don’t know who to blame first! The SDA Church, the parent’s, or the students!!! I really don’t feel sorry for these kids. They know exactly what they are getting into. If they think they can go in there and change the minds of the catholic church, they are fooling themselves. Heaven will not send angels to help them. Men go where angels fear to tread!

This is embarrassing on so many levels, God have mercy on us!

EGW: In planning for the education of their children outside the home, parents should realize that it is no longer safe to send them to the public school, and should endeavor to send them to schools where they will obtain an education based on a Scriptural foundation. Upon every Christian parent there rests the solemn obligation of giving to his children an education that will lead them to gain a knowledge of the Lord and to become partakers of the divine nature through obedience to God’s will and way. {CG 304.1}
Comment: Though the quote is specifically towards public schools, it is applicable to any church school not teaching the ways of God through the scriptures but human concocted ideas.
