Every day, the Papacy is becoming the most influential religious and political authority in the world. Rome is now boasting that its influence has been accepted by Protestants and Orthodox. There is a reason why Pope Francis is injecting himself and using his moral authority to persuade religious leaders on a range of issues. Pope Francis is well aware of the need to interact directly with social leaders, lawmakers, churches, and the media. Pope Francis has a reason for interacting with the World Council of Churches, the World Economic Forum, the United Nations, the European Union, the World Trade Organization, the G7, the G20, the World Bank, and all other international organizations that have a significant influence on world politics and international relations. Pope Francis is fulfilling his prophetic role to restore the spiritual and temporal authority that was lost in 1798 when Rome received the deadly wound.
La Croix International is a Catholic media news site that covers major events and global developments within the Catholic community. On January 24, 2025, Jean-François Chiron, a Roman Catholic priest, theologian, and ecumenist, wrote an article titled “Among Protestants and Orthodox, the Authority of the Pope has Eventually Prevailed,” which demonstrates how the Papacy is regaining its former power and influence as more and more non-Catholic Christians acknowledge Rome’s primacy in international affairs.
The La Croix’s article stated in part:
• “As Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox believers prayed this week for “Christian unity,” Jean-François Chiron sheds light on how the pope’s role has evolved within this ecumenical dialogue as his specific legitimacy has gradually been recognized.” [1]
• “For a long time, the authority of this church and its bishop was primarily moral: a reference point, a landmark in controversies. Gradually, this authority was recognized, sought out, and eventually prevailed.” [1]
• “It has been a long journey, not without its challenges, marked by separations within Christianity: the split between East and West in the 11th century and within the West in the 16th century. For many, the papacy became, at best, a foreign entity; at worst, a symbol of the Antichrist.” [1]
• “One cannot overstate how much progress was made in the 20th century: the pope, for the majority of non-Catholics, has come to occupy a positive place within the Christian landscape.” [1]
• “For some non-Catholic Christians, the pope’s voice matters, though it is a conditioned voice. In the Orthodox perspective, it is conditioned by tradition as it has been shaped by the voices of the Fathers and the councils.” [1]
• “From the Protestant perspective, the pope’s voice is conditioned by its alignment with the fundamental principles of the Reformation: the proclamation of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, and based on Scripture alone.” [1]
• “It is encouraging, let us reiterate, that non-Catholic traditions have come to recognize a fundamental fidelity in the papacy’s history to its evangelical roots.” [1]
After 60 years of ecumenism, various Protestant denominations and Orthodox churches have developed closer ties with Rome while adopting many of her traditions. Many have even acknowledged the Catholic Church’s power and impact on world politics. This is all part of a plan to formally embrace papal supremacy in temporal and spiritual matters.
Pope Francis is on a mission to bring the entire world under its authority—pagans, Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Jews, Protestants, many Adventists, secularists, and even the non-religious. Ecumenism is absolutely essential for the healing of the deadly wound and the implementation of the Sunday law:
“When the leading churches of the United States, uniting upon such points of doctrine as are held by them in common, shall influence the State to enforce their decrees and to sustain their institutions, then Protestant America will have formed an image of the Roman hierarchy, and the infliction of civil penalties upon dissenters will inevitably result” (Great Controversy, p. 445).
When Protestantism and Catholicism come together, then the image of the beast is formed, not before. And no one, not even the apostate Protestant daughters, has done a greater job at fast-tracking Vatican II’s Decree on Ecumenism. In fact, Pope Francis has surpassed Vatican II with his encyclical, Fratelli Tutti.
“God’s Word has given warning of the impending danger; let this be unheeded, and the Protestant world will learn what the purposes of Rome really are, only when it is too late to escape the snare. She is silently growing into power. Her doctrines are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in the churches, and in the hearts of men. She is piling up her lofty and massive structures, in the secret recesses of which her former persecutions will be repeated. Stealthily and unsuspectedly she is strengthening her forces to further her own ends when the time shall come for her to strike. All that she desires is vantage-ground, and this is already being given her. We shall soon see and shall feel what the purpose of the Roman element is. Whoever shall believe and obey the Word of God will thereby incur reproach and persecution” (Great Controversy, p. 581).
