“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57.
Millions of people will be watching the Super Bowl this Sunday cheering for their favorite team to win. They will embark down a 4-hour long emotional roller-coaster of joy when their team is ahead or anxiety should their team fall behind. No one really knows who is going to win because anything can happen. Should your team win, savor the moment because it is only temporary. Next year the game resets and the entire process starts up again.
The Bible tells us that there is an advantage that the Christian has over the sporting enthusiast. We are told that God has already broadcasted the results. God has already won and the devil has been defeated. Those who put their complete faith and trust in Jesus are victorious. We are not the losers; we will triumph because Jesus is our champion. When you belong to Christ you are on the winning team! And just like the Super Bowl will have millions of fans watching and cheering for their teams, God has an innumerable company of saints throughout the universe who worship and praise Him; not just in this life, but in the life to come.
“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” Revelation 19:6.
So whether you’re planning to watch the Patriots and the Eagles contend for the Super Bowl title remember these important words:
“And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” 1 Corinthians 9:25.
Long after this world has ended with all of its sporting events, those who are on God’s team will triumph throughout eternity with their crowns of glory.
