On January 17, 2022, the All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) called on the Election Commission of India, which is part of India’s Ministry of Law and Justice, to cancel all polling dates that fall on Sunday, citing that Sunday is a holy day for Christians and a day of “rest and worship.” [1] The Christian churches that make up AMCO petitioned the government by stating:
“Sunday is a sacred day, the Lord’s Day, a day set aside to worship and revere God. But fixing a polling date on Sunday has led the Christian community in Manipur to question if the Government is deliberately attempting to desacralize (profane) its religious significance.” [2]
It’s easy to see how a majority of Christian churches could come together to demand that Sunday be protected and enforced as a day of rest. They are doing it right now in India. According to Revelation 13, this mark of papal authority, Sunday, will be imposed on all nations of the world, not only the people of this country. The evidence of this union of church and state may be seen in calls for religious legislation and the establishment of Sunday as a day of rest and worship.
“To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for Sunday laws” (Review and Herald, January, 23, 1908).
There is no question that Sunday is being agitated in different places around the world. A world-wide movement is being launched to formally recognize Sunday as the universal day of rest by the different churches, labor unions, secular governments, politicians, the secular media, and different special interest groups. Whatever the motivations for making Sunday a day of rest, we know that the true source of these laws is Catholic doctrine, and that they serve Rome’s religious imperatives.
“Behold the well-nigh universal disregard of the Sabbath commandment. Behold also the daring impiety of those who, while enacting laws to safeguard the supposed sanctity of the first day of the week … It is Satan himself who inspires such legislation. He well knows that the curse of God will rest on those who exalt human enactments above the divine, and he does all in his power to lead men into the broad road that ends in destruction” (Prophets and Kings, p. 186).
And, because we were told that “great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones” (Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 11), we may believe that the final steps in the fulfillment of the prophecy of Revelation 13 will occur suddenly. This refers to the coming together of church and state, as well as the legalization of Sunday rest.
“The Sunday movement is now making its way in darkness … It is our duty to do all in our power to avert the threatened danger. We should endeavor to disarm prejudice by placing ourselves in a proper light before the people. We should bring before them the real question at issue, thus interposing the most effectual protest against measures to restrict liberty of conscience” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 452)
It is our responsibility, more than ever before, to prepare for what is ahead and to realize that the crisis of the last days is upon us. Whoever puts off the coming of the Lord at the present time does so at the peril of their own soul. We can see the enforcement mechanism for the image of the beast being created if we look at the bigger picture taking place in our world with all the events that are unfolding. The next step will be the enforcement of the papal mark of authority – Sunday. Men, women, and children will be confronted with the decision as to whether they will obey the commandments of God or the commandments of men. May God prepare us to stand faithful in this solemn hour.

What is our Religious Liberty Dept. doing about this? Sunday is not the Lord’s Day nor did the Lord make it sacred. As a SDA, I realize that prophecy is being fulfilled but surely we should not go down without a fight from the lord’s people regarding truth!
