Christian Network Europe is a Protestant news website that emphasizes Christian principles for the continent of Europe. On March 6, 2023, Christian Network Europe published an article titled, “Portuguese Catholics fight to bring back the work-free Sunday.” In the article, the Protestant news media stated that the Catholic Workers League, Liga Operária Católica (LOC), wants to revive work-free Sundays because they say that “work-free Sunday is a necessary measure to protect the lives of families.” In other words, if we don’t take action to protect Sunday as a day of rest, families’ lives are in jeopardy.
The Christian Network Europe reported the following:
• “A Catholic organization in Portugal wants to revive the idea of a work-free Sunday.” [1]
• “The Liga Operária Católica (LOC) said … work-free Sunday is a necessary measure to protect the lives of families.” [1]
• “The fight for a work-free Sunday, more than fair, is necessary, so that there is family life for everyone! So that families, all workers, can live together and fraternize and build a fairer and more solidary world, the organization said.” [1]
• “LOC also said that the day is intended to reflect on how twenty-first century consumption habits are infringing on the lives of both families and workers.” [1]
Here, we see Rome’s tentacles pulling the entire world toward Sunday rest by law. They are using terms like “infringing,” which are legal terms that describe acts that violate the law. This term is associated with the violation of someone’s legal or moral rights. Additionally, we see how the Protestant-owned Christian Network Europe is amplifying the call to secure Sunday rest through “work-free” measures. Catholics and Protestants are working together. Don’t be misled. This call to make Sunday “work-free” is an appeal to elected officials to enact laws securing Sunday rest.
“The Word of God teaches that these scenes are to be repeated as papists and Protestants shall unite for the exaltation of the Sunday” (Great Controversy, p. 578).
Work-free Sunday is a policy to get organizations, businesses, and retailers to refrain from work-related activities on Sunday. It is an attempt to designate Sunday as the day for rest, relaxation, and spending time with family and friends. Even though the Sunday rest movement claims that a work-free Sunday is intended to promote work-life balance and to allow people to recharge their batteries before the start of a new workweek, we know from prophecy that the real intention is to get people into church on the false day of worship.
“The enforcement of Sunday-keeping on the part of Protestant churches is an enforcement of the worship of the papacy—of the beast” (Great Controversy, p. 448).
“The dignitaries of church and State will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments” (Great Controversy, p. 592).
“There is a satanic force propelling the Sunday movement, but it is concealed. Even the men who are engaged in the work, are themselves blinded to the results which will follow their movement. Let not the commandment-keeping people of God be silent at this time, as though we gracefully accepted the situation. There is the prospect before us, of waging a continuous war, at the risk of imprisonment, of losing property and even life itself, to defend the law of God, which is being made void by the laws of men” (Review and Herald, January 1, 1889).
