Fox News is generally considered a conservative news organization. It has a history of providing a platform for Christian-leaning conservative commentators, pundits, and politicians. On August 27, 2023, Fox News published an article titled, “Faith Dilemma in Focus: It’s Sunday and I haven’t gone to church—what do I do?” This kind of question for a news feature is intended to reinforce in the minds of people the idea that Sundays are for attending church. This is a typical marketing technique used to sway the public, or, in this case, promote Sunday as the day of rest. The article discussed the decline of church attendance on Sunday in America, which Fox News described as a “dilemma.” The article stated:
• Recently, a query came … from a Christian woman — a married mother of four who considers herself deeply spiritual and faith-filled. She said she had not gone to church regularly in recent times—ever since the pandemic, basically. However, she frequently prayed throughout the day to God, she said. Even so, especially on Sundays, it did not sit right with her that she hadn’t been to church regularly over the past few years. [1]
• Pastor Bradley said to Fox News Digital in response to the dilemma, “For the first time in the history of America, less than half of the people in our country are connected with a house of worship.” [1]
• He said, “There are a long list factors that contribute to this reality — including the pandemic, the pace of the culture, work schedules and career issues, traveling, negative experiences, youth sports, misperceptions about God, shifting priorities, drifting from God and weekend routines.” [1]
• “Praying, reading the Bible and serving other people are daily habits that are transformative and uplifting,” said Pastor Bradley. [1]
• He said it is wise to “cultivate habits that will strengthen your faith and shape a vibrant spiritual life.” [1]
• “Many churches have live-streaming, midweek Bible study groups and classes, community outreach, and connection through prayer groups,” said Pastor Bradley, urging people to “stay engaged with a community of faith.” [1]
• He added, “You can talk to your employer about not working on Sunday mornings.” [1]
The general acceptance that Sunday should be reserved for church rather than work will be greatly influenced by the news media. This is what is taking place right now. Since Fox News and other media outlets have large audiences, their message is being heard by a sizable portion of the population, and this will directly impact public opinion.
The news media, while playing a crucial role in informing the public and promoting healthy discourse, can also be used negatively to advance ideologies, propaganda, or, in this case, religious misinformation. And when the news media begins to promote Rome’s agenda, such as Sunday rest for worship, they are undoubtedly promoting harmful content that will aid in preparing people for the mark of the beast.
“Our land is in jeopardy. The time is drawing on when its legislators shall so abjure the principles of Protestantism as to give countenance to Romish apostasy. The people for whom God has so marvelously wrought, strengthening them to throw off the galling yoke of popery, will, by a national act, give vigor to the corrupt faith of Rome, and thus arouse the tyranny which only waits for a touch to start again into cruelty and despotism. With rapid steps are we already approaching this period” (Signs of the Times, July 17, 1907).
