On August 25, 2022, the Daily News Hungary published an article titled, “Will Sunday shop closures be reintroduced in Hungary?” The article argued that a full Sunday shutdown for business operations would now be necessary, citing skyrocketing power and gas prices. As a result, all businesses would have to close completely on Sundays. The report said:
“Zoltán Karsai, President of the Trade Union of Commercial Employees says, it is a huge cost-saving opportunity for a commercial enterprise if it has to cool or heat a store half a day less a week, or even light it at all. This is why, with the current energy prices, it is worth renegotiating the issue of closing shops on Sundays … The expert emphasized that the skyrocketing electricity and gas prices would now justify a full Sunday closure. However, for now, the target for commercial enterprises is to close at noon on the seventh day of the week (Sunday)” [1]
In addition to the energy crisis, the second reason given for full Sunday closures was labor shortages:
“Another important issue to consider is the scheduling of work. As retail remains one of the sectors most affected by labor shortages, closing shops at noon on Sundays could lead to different weekend shifts and the bonuses received for them.” [1]
The labor union in Hungary is gathering signatures from employees at various retail locations and is expecting a “real breakthrough.” They hope to get the “issue of Sunday shop closure” into the hands of the “decision-makers soon.” The union would like to see “full Sunday closures” go into effect as early as January 1, 2023.
Labor unions are joining with religious institutions to secure Sunday as the day of rest. In this case, the trade union in Hungary is working tirelessly to see a work-free Sunday rest imposed by January 1, 2023. They cite the energy crisis, labor shortages, and lack of rest for their workers. There is no question that labor unions are committed to making sure that Sunday is observed as a day of rest for the entire community, along with the media, religious institutions, and politicians.
These forces are the ones that won’t stop until the current Sunday measures are strictly enforced. Stricter requests are made to tighten Sunday legislation implementation where it already exists. Calls for a restoration to Sunday observance are being made in countries where there are no Sunday laws. And, according to inspiration, Sunday laws will certainly be implemented soon and, when they are, they will render the law of God null void:
“A time is coming when the law of God is, in a special sense, to be made void in our land. The rulers of our nation will, by legislative enactments, enforce the Sunday law, and thus God’s people be brought into great peril. When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact laws to bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringing oppressive power to bear against those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath, the law of God will, to all intents and purposes, be made void in our land; and national apostasy will be followed by national ruin. We see that those who are now keeping the commandments of God need to bestir themselves, that they may obtain the special help which God alone can give them. They should work more earnestly to delay as long as possible the threatened calamity” (Review and Herald, December 18, 1888).
We need to take evangelism seriously. This involves clearly telling the truth about the everlasting gospel and the warnings against the beast, its image, and the mark. It includes emphasizing that there are not many truths, but only one true faith—the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus (Revelation 14:12). Jesus commended, not suggested, that His church make disciples of all nations. This entails more than just going about our daily lives. We cannot neglect sharing God’s message to all the other churches and the outside world. No, before the final test comes, God wants us to actively work to bring souls into a knowledge of the truth for this time.

The trades unions will be one of the agencies that will bring upon this earth a time of trouble such as has not been since the world began. { Mar 182.2}
The work of the people of God is to prepare for the events of the future, which will soon come upon them with blinding force. In the world gigantic monopolies will be formed. Men will bind themselves together in unions that will wrap them in the folds of the enemy. A few men will combine to grasp all the means to be obtained in certain lines of business. Trades unions will be formed, and those who refuse to join these unions will be marked men…. { Mar 182.4}
