Law and order is the foundation of civilization. You cannot have a peaceful and just society unless there is respect for law and order. Both civil and moral law demands respect towards other people. This includes respect for life, property and civil and religious liberties.
Can you imagine in this time of civil disorder, where young people are rioting in the streets, assaulting people, burning buildings, smashing windows, destroying property and fighting with law enforcement, that Pope Francis may be responsible for encouraging this kind of behavior?
Back in 2015 Pope Francis railed against capitalism and pushed for the rights of the poor by urging young people to “make a mess” of the economic order that he labeled a “dung of the devil.”
The youth of today have only been too willing to heed these words. They are certainly making a mess with destructive acts, riots and chaos in our current economic order.
When we look at the masses of crowds protesting and rioting it reminds us of a similar event that moved the heart of Jesus with compassion.
“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.” Mathew 9:36.
If these crowds are making a “mess” by beating up people, fighting with the police and causing disruptions then these are crowds spoken of in the Bible that are “scattered” and “without” a Shepard.
We should be teaching these crowds and our youth the real values and principles of morality, civility, responsibility and respect. The revolution that we want people to experience in one that will bring us to the God of law and order Who is calling people, not to make a mess, but to clean up the dirty messes of the world through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
