Sunday is being incorporated into our every-day conversation more and more, including the climate message and the movement to promote sustainability. That is the part that concerns us as Adventists. If Sunday was not part of the climate agenda, then we probably wouldn’t be talking too much about it. However, the reality is that it is. We have car-free Sundays, work-free Sundays, Green Sunday Projects, Climate Sunday Initiatives and many other efforts that infuse Sunday into our everyday lives. Our focus is on the exaltation of Sunday within the climate movement.
We now have a new Sunday lawn care project called “Get Sunday” that was started to provide sustainable nutrients to preserve the planet. The implications of the message are that Sunday is interconnected with life, balance, and health. They tell us that Sunday is the best way to support the entire ecosystem. The GetSunday.com website tells us the following:
• “The Sunday Way – Support the whole ecosystem for a beautiful lawn that’s full of life. With guidance and custom nutrients, we help you cultivate rich, living soil for a healthy lawn that’s more self sustaining. Instead of brute force, we use cutting edge plant science to get back to how nature is supposed to work.” [1]
• “Join your Sunday neighborhood. Check out how many of your neighbors are already making an impact! Every home that switches to Sunday helps make your neighborhood a better place for people, pets, and the planet.” [2]
• “Why your neighbors are switching to Sunday. You don’t have to spend hours researching – we do the plant science stuff for you.” [2]
Do you see the message that is being portrayed through this marketing strategy? They are proposing “The Sunday Way,” Join Your Sunday Neighborhood,” and “Switching to Sunday.” These messages are not even subliminal anymore but are overtly being communicated consciously to their recipients. The Sunday message doesn’t have to bypass our critical faculties because they are directly influencing consumers to choose Sunday.
As the entire world is converging on the Sunday question, we have our work to do. We have a message to give. We must be about our Father’s business with much greater vigor than those who are advocating the errors of Sunday. We have a present truth that addresses the present Sunday crisis. May God give us the strength to do everything within our power and give the final warning.
“Not a move has been made in exalting the idol sabbath, in bringing around Sunday observance through legislation, but Satan has been behind it, and has been the chief worker” (Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, p. 977).
