Pastor John Thomas Lindsey of True Love Church of Refuge in North Carolina is sitting in jail on charges of 9 armed robberies. Pastor Lindsey is accused of robbing a Family Dollar, two Sam’s Mart stores, two 7-Eleven stores and 4 Circle K stores with a firearm. Although the name of his church is “True Love Church” he apparently is feeling any love from the community right now.
It shouldn’t be surprising that some churches are resorting to criminal activities because for several years many have been teaching that we don’t have to keep God’s law because we are under grace. The book Great Controversy was written over 100 years ago and tells us that this was the direction our nation was heading in.
“Those who teach the people to regard lightly the commandments of God sow disobedience to reap disobedience. Let the restraint imposed by the divine law be wholly cast aside, and human laws would soon be disregarded. Because God forbids dishonest practices, coveting, lying, and defrauding, men are ready to trample upon His statutes as a hindrance to their worldly prosperity; but the results of banishing these precepts would be such as they do not anticipate” (Great Controversy, 585).
The churches must emphasize obedience. A cheap grace that doesn’t lead to imitating Christ in our lives (sanctification) is part of why the church has to a certain degree lost its power. Lawlessness is part of the end-time agenda, and some of our churches are responsible for the wickedness that we are seeing.
“Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto My words, nor to My law, but rejected it. To what purpose cometh there to Me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto Me. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish” Jeremiah 6:19-21.
No one owns the corner market of holiness. We are all sinner in need of repentance. We pray for not just this pastor but for many others who the Lord needs to get a hold of. One thing is certain, once God has your heart, He has everything else.
