Not only is the Vatican seeking to influence the political, religious, and business worlds; not only is the Pope admired and praised with royal receptions everywhere he travels, but now the Bishop of Rome is calling for the financial sectors of our world to be guided by the church’s magisterium, the official teaching authority of the Roman Catholic Church.
According to the Vatican Press Office, Pope Francis expressed the following to financial leaders on June 3, 2024, at an event organized by the Vatican called “Dialogue for a Fully Sustainable Finance”:
• “I greet the president, the members of the Centesimus Annus Foundation, and those who are participating in the Dialogues it has organized in collaboration with Prospera-Progetto Speranza. I read with interest the results of the work you have been carrying out in these two years, in order to launch a dialogue between finance, humanism and religion.” [1]
• “I was struck by the primary aim you have set yourselves: namely, to reason together with the upper echelons of the world of finance on the possibility that the commitment to do well and the commitment to do good can go hand in hand. In other words, you have set yourselves a noble task: to combine effectiveness and efficiency with integral sustainability, inclusion and ethics. You rightly say that your belief is that the Church’s social magisterium can be a compass. For this to actually happen, it is necessary not to stop at the exhortatory moment, but to be able to look at the functioning of finance, to expose weaknesses and imagine concrete corrective measures.” [1]
• “The work you have done in Milan is encouraging, and perhaps it might be a good thing to extend it to other financial centers, promoting a model of Dialogue that spreads and engenders a paradigm shift. Indeed, the technocratic paradigm remains dominant; there is a need for a new culture, capable of making room for a suitably solid ethics, culture and spirituality (cf. Encyclical Letter Laudato Si’, 105).” [1]
• “Thank you for the work you have done and are doing. Thank you to Centesimus Annus for its initiative. I encourage you to continue and to spread this method and this style. Dialogue is always the best way, also to improve the common home. I bless you and I ask you to pray for me. Thank you.” [1]
Bible prophecy has described this same type of financial model as existing during the last days. In the book of Revelation, a power is presented that is cunning, will play a role in the affairs of the nations, and will devise a plan of enrichment to dominate the world:
“For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” Revelation 18:3.
“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:17.
In the coming economy, the faithful will be deprived of participation because they refuse to drink the wine of Babylon and become entangled in her illicit relationships. As foretold in biblical prophecy, God’s faithful will face intense persecution because they steadfastly refuse to compromise their faith. Their unwavering commitment to God’s commandments (Revelation 12:17) will provoke hostility and opposition from the beast and its image.
“In the last great conflict of the controversy with Satan those who are loyal to God will see every earthly support cut off. Because they refuse to break His law in obedience to earthly powers, they will be forbidden to buy or sell. It will finally be decreed that they shall be put to death. See Revelation 13:11-17. But to the obedient is given the promise, ‘He shall dwell on high: his place of defense shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.’ Isaiah 33:16. By this promise the children of God will live. When the earth shall be wasted with famine, they shall be fed. ‘They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.’ Psalm 37:19” (Desire of Ages, p. 121).
