‘Remember Your Name’ – An Interview with Pastor Bill Hughes

Advent Messenger: Pastor Bill, you have been in the ministry for many years. When did Truth Triumphant Ministries start and what was your intention?

Pastor Bill Hughes: Truth Triumphant Ministries started in September of 1995.  Since I had 3 children and a wife to care for, I was very hesitant.  My wife said, “Well, if you get 1,000.00, would you start a ministry.”  I laughed and said, “Nobody would send me money.  Sure, if 1,000.00 came in by the end of September, I will have a ministry.  That would be God’s sign to me.”  By the end of September, over 8,000.00 had come in and we have been at it ever since.  My intent was to proclaim the 3 angel’s messages.  All 3 of them!!  That includes declaring Babylon fallen as the apostate Protestant churches, the papacy as the beast and Sunday as her mark.

Praise the Lord; we have been able to send these messages to many, many countries around the world.  Many people from every walk of life and church have come to love Christ and these messages!  As questions come up and people make requests for certain information, I would discuss these things as well.  For example, when Ted Wilson became the GC president, I had people from Australia, Africa, Europe, and the states asking if he was a modern day Josiah.  Out of these requests for info came Chapter 9 “Ted Wilson: Saint or Snake?” from my new book ‘Remember Your Name.’

Advent Messenger: You have also authored several books. Tell us about your most recent book entitled, ‘Remember Your Name.’ What is the book about?

Pastor Bill Hughes: The book ‘Remember Your Name’ came about after receiving a phone call from a young man whom I treated as a son.  We had many conversations over the years on a host of subjects and I spent many hours with this young man on the phone, seeking to encourage, guide, and help him.  Well, he phoned me and let me have it.  He said I was a liar because I said the new logo in Adventism was the result of the ecumenical Lima, Peru meeting in January of 1982 and the SDA church embracing it 100%.  He called me a liar because I said that Neil Wilson said under oath in the Mary Silver trial in the 1970’s that Adventists’ understanding of the papacy being the antichrist was now in the garbage can.  It was a very sad and shocking phone call.  Because he knew me well and respected me, I realized that this young man had been told lies by Adventist leaders/pastors who were trying to whitewash the ecumenical trend in Adventism for the last 60 plus years.

I felt that if this young man could be utterly led astray by lying leaders, something had to be done and that was how ‘Remember Your Name’ came into being.  My hope in writing it is that Adventists, young and old, would see what has happened, why things are the way they are, and would protest against it.  The book looks at the history in Seventh day Adventism over the last 60 plus years hitting some high points in the ecumenical slide in the church to where it is today.  It starts with the evangelical conferences in the 1950’s and finishes with the ecumenical avalanche that Ganoune Diop is engineering today!

Advent Messenger: In 2010, the same year that Ted Wilson was elected General Conference president, he delivered a sermon during Annual Council in which he challenged Seventh-day Adventists to ‘Remember Your Name.’ Would you say that during the 11 years of Ted Wilson’s presidency, to some extent, he has not followed his own appeal?

Pastor Bill Hughes: In the sermon Ted Wilson gave in 2010, he challenged Adventist groups to remember what Adventism stands for and to embrace it and run with it.  He challenged those that had backslidden and independent ministries too among others.  He has repeatedly told Adventists by pen and by word to proclaim the 3 angels’ messages.  This he has NOT done!  He talks on the first angel’s message; the commandments, the Sabbath, the righteousness of Christ, and the sanctuary.  However, he NEVER declares who Babylon is in the 2nd Angel’s message.  He never fingers apostate Protestant churches.  NEVER!!  Ted Wilson needs to ‘remember your name’.  After the ASI meeting in Grand Rapids in August of 2014, he proclaimed that the mark of the beast was any day of the week other than the 7th day Sabbath.  That idea didn’t come from the Bible, history, or the Spirit of Prophecy.  Where did he get such an idea?  Did it come from his mentors when he got a doctorate at NYU via Fordham?   FINALLY, seven years later, in August of 2021, he said the mark of the beast was Sunday.   Ted Wilson has not ‘remembered his name’!

Advent Messenger: In your book you dedicated a chapter to the ecumenical activities of Ganoune Diop. In this chapter you mentioned that Ganoune Diop studied at the University of Paris, Sorbonne, an institution linked to Roman Catholicism and the Counter-Reformation. Both the Jesuit saints, Ignacio de Loyola and Francis Xavier, are products of this same institution. Do you consider this problematic?

Pastor Bill Hughes: How Diop could go to the Sorbonne to be educated, where leading Jesuits have also been trained, is beyond insane!!  This epitomizes why Adventism is in the state it is in today.  Adventism today is about ecumenism; cuddling up to Rome and Apostate Protestant churches.  We see Adventism constantly involved in ecumenical meetings with Babylon!  Ted Wilson attended the ecumenical gathering in Moscow to commemorate Luther’s Reformation.  Diop remains the ringleader of this monstrous apostasy that will destroy Adventism.  He is doing what he was trained to do.  This will only produce a sure result foretold in prophecy:

“The Lord has a controversy with his professed people in these last days. In this controversy men in responsible positions will take a course directly opposite to that pursued by Nehemiah. They will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but they will try to keep it from others by burying it beneath the rubbish of custom and tradition. In churches and in large gatherings in the open air, ministers will urge upon the people the necessity of keeping the first day of the week. There are calamities on sea and land: and these calamities will increase, one disaster following close upon another; and the little band of conscientious Sabbath-keepers will be pointed out as the ones who are bringing the wrath of God upon the world by their disregard of Sunday”  (RH, March 18,1884).

Advent Messenger: The cover of your book depicts the old Seventh-day Adventist logo containing the original three angels. It also shows what appears to be a crack in the wall or foundation. What is the message you are trying to convey?

Pastor Bill Hughes: Through the rejection of the original logo of the 3 angels and the embracing of the ecumenical logo of the wavy lines, the sure foundation on which Adventism once stood is cracking before our very eyes.  I’m amazed at how SDA’s continue to justify the bold-faced apostasy and excuse the arrogant plunge toward Sunday amongst Adventist leadership today!!  We can clearly see where this is all tending.  Ancient Adventism, on the shores of earthly Canaan, just like ourselves, got involved in physical fornication with the heathen people back then.  One Zimri even ventured to show his boldness by bringing the harlot into the camp. WE are repeating history.  Diop and others are doing the same thing.  Notice the results:

“And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel. And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.”  Numbers 25:6-9.

A plague is coming soon!!!

Advent Messenger: You mention that we are at a watershed moment. What can we do individually or collectively to remember our name and historic mission?

Pastor Bill Hughes: A watershed is a turning point, or historic moment. The day you got your braces off might have been a watershed moment in your life. Watershed is a geographical term, originally.  For ‘SDAdventism,’ this is truly a watershed moment, wrought with eternal consequences.  As we see the ecumenical movement engulfing Adventism; as we see the three angels’ messages becoming a thing of history with so few preaching these messages anymore; as we see the denomination becoming so worldly, there is no difference between the church and the world; as we see America and apostate protestants uniting in earnest with the Vatican; as we see COP26 and climate change which Francis spells SUNDAY; as we see chaos, chaos, and more chaos; then we know that the judgment of the living is hastening on and that the Latter Rain will soon fall and that we must do all we can to be ready spiritually and intellectually for what is coming on the earth!!  How utterly vital it is that we be found claiming the word of truth when the devil attacks.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Ps. 119:11.

How crucial it is that we experience the power of Christ in our lives to help us overcome sin.

“Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above are to stand in the sight of a holy God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort they must be conquerors in the battle with evil. While the investigative judgment is going forward in heaven, while the sins of penitent believers are being removed from the sanctuary, there is to be a special work of purification, of putting away of sin, among God’s people upon earth. This work is more clearly presented in the messages of Revelation 14.” (Great Controversy, p. 425).

While we must be humbling our hearts before God, there is still another work for us to do; namely, sharing the truth of God with as many people as we can.  As Jesus commissioned us:

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”  Matthew 28:18-20.

Advent Messenger: Finally, we are told in Testimonies to the Church, vol. 5, p. 252 that “the power which stirred the people so mightily in the 1844 movement will again be revealed.” Are you seeing an effort anywhere in Adventism that is working to see our historic message revived? And do you have any final words of encouragement to share?

Pastor Bill Hughes: I have been privileged to travel to 6 continents.  To each continent and to each country, I have seen, not large gatherings, but good size groups of people preparing to meet Jesus when He comes.  They realize that before they will see Jesus, they have a work to do.  These faithful are actively engaged in evangelism.  These groups are spreading the truths of God’s word like the leaves of autumn.  I saw it in England, Puerto Rico, Australia, Ecuador, Canada, Germany, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Kenya, Zambia, Mexico, Okinawa, South Korea, the Philippines and many more places. It’s with these that I remain in touch and send materials to aid them in their work of evangelism.  The Lord is preparing a people for the Latter Rain.  A word of encouragement to all would be the words given to the church of Philadelphia:

“Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”  Revelation 3:10, 11.
