Welcome to Sin City, Nevada, world famous for its legalized gambling, legalized prostitution, legalized marijuana and now the site of the greatest mass shooting in America’s modern history.
There are thousands of bars where people get drunk and endless strip clubs with male and female dancers. It is the adult entertainment capital of the world. Sin city is also a Mecca for the LGBT community where flesh, strange flesh, is always on display. There are shows, Broadway productions, concerts, horse racing and every imaginable form of entertainment and vice known to modern man.
Las Vegas, known for its excess in all things, has reached a level of sin that has become so offensive and so open. And the crazed gunman who opened fire with automatic weapons from a hotel window on 22,000 concert goers is no exception. More than 60 people are dead and over 500 wounded. But will this stop the hedonistic excesses, the gambling, the revelry, the sex and the merrymaking in Sin City? Not at all.
This horrific massacre is only one part of the curse of sin that exists in Sin City. Las Vegas is a city that is devoted to sin and sinful conduct. Everyone knows that. No one likes to hear that in today’s society, but God sees all sin, and it is all offensive to Him. The mass shooting, as horrible and senseless as the act was, is only part of that same behavior that falls in the parameters of Sin City. It’s all sinful, egregious behavior.
The Bible defines the standard of right and wrong, sin and righteousness. Our secular, humanists cultural doesn’t like these definitions because they are fostering a godless society that permits the “everything and anything goes” mentality. And when there is no restraint or morals then what do you expect? Human nature that is void of the sweet restraining Spirit of God will do anything, including the indiscriminate and brutal slaughter of people.
When men reject the basic moral standards of living then a curse rests upon that society. Noting is sacred and no one is safe.
“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store. Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.” Deuteronomy 28:15-20.
Here is a warning for God’s people when they join in these sinful festivities.
“When the professed people of God are uniting with the world, living as they live, and joining with them in forbidden pleasures; when the luxury of the world becomes the luxury of the church; when the marriage bells are chiming, and all are looking forward to many years of worldly prosperity—then, suddenly as the lightning flashes from the heavens, will come the end of their bright visions and delusive hopes. As God sent His servant to warn the world of the coming Flood, so He sent chosen messengers to make known the nearness of the final judgment.” Great Controversy, p. 338
