In Israel, a poll found widespread support for a shorter workweek. The Jerusalem Post, a daily newspaper based in Israel, published a survey on May 10, 2022, showing that 76 percent of those polled supported including Sunday in the weekend. According to the report, adding “Sunday” as an extra day to the weekend would “reduce tensions and divisions within Israeli society.” [1]
Most Israelis already have a 5-day workweek, Sunday through Thursday with Friday and Saturday off. [2] Will embracing Sunday reduce tensions and divisions? This is what Israel is proposing. Where are they getting their information from, Laudato Si’? They’re certainly not getting their information from Moses or the prophets. Here is a nation that is historically connected to the Seventh-day Sabbath, Saturday, and now they are counting on Sunday to save them? This is difficult to fathom.
The results from the survey on “Sunday” were as follows:
“More than 90% of respondents were concerned that the tension around state and religion is undermining the unity of Israeli society, with 83% saying that establishing a Sunday weekend would reduce these tensions.” [1]
“The survey also indicated that should Sunday become part of the weekend, over 50% of self-described secular people would spend more time at home resting.” [1]
Will incorporating Sunday rest into their weekend save society? This appears to be their strategy. If this is what a seventh-day Sabbath-keeping community is saying, what hope is there for the rest of the world? Sunday is being promoted by the Jews as the solution to all of their problems, and according to a poll, the Jews are enthusiastic about it.
This is incredible given that the Jewish people have been miraculously preserved for thousands of years. They are living proof that the seven-day week cycle established at creation and given to Israel hasn’t changed. If you want to know which day is the true Sabbath, you need look no further than the Jewish people.
Unfortunately, this is also changing, as the entire world, including Jews, is looking to Sunday to save them. The world is attempting to shorten the work week, with Sunday gradually becoming the universal day of rest preferred by the majority of people. It is the day that Pope Francis, the Christian world, trade unions, secular governments, and now even Sabbath-observant Jews have designated.
Soon it will be imposed by law. Soon we will be forced to rest on Sunday. But here is the problem: the Bible tells us to “Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come; and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” (Revelation 14:7). This is a call to embrace God as the Creator. It is a call to worship and honor the One who created heaven and earth. It is a call to embrace the seventh-day Sabbath, a monument to both the Creator and creation.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Genesis 20:8-11.
If we are to speak of a day of rest for humanity or creation, we must first acknowledge that all things were created by Christ (Colossians 1:16, 17), and that nothing exists without Him (John 1:1-3). We must also recognize that when we talk about the Sabbath, we’re talking about the rest of God (Genesis 2:1-3). Since God created the Sabbath, only He knows why He created it:
“And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.” Mark 2:27, 28.
Only Jesus can tell us when the Sabbath is, what it is for, and how to observe it. Any statement made by men or the church about which day is the true Sabbath rest or how we honor the Creator is nothing more than a man-made addition to God’s word. Human ordinances, human decrees, and human encyclicals will always be invalid. Only God’s Word should serve as our guide. Nobody can ever be wrong if they cling to the Holy Scriptures and are taught by God.
God will have a people who will keep His commandments, not man’s (Revelation 12:17, 14:12, 22:14). The time is coming, and it is now, when our world will exalt human wisdom (2 Thessalonians 2:4) and give glory to man (a violation of Luke 2:14) by exalting the false day of sun worship (Ezekiel 8:16) above the commandment of God that says: “Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy” and “the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God” (Exodus 20:8, 10).

They’re just lazy and want an extra day to not have to go into work. Americans love a 3 day weekend. It has nothing to do with saving the environment.

I read the article and the tone seemed more about having an additional day off to allow more activities that currently are taking place on the sabbeth. We have been blessed in the US with a 5 day work week generally speaking for my entire life.
“A weekend Sunday will give all Israelis an alternative day for shopping and competitive sport and going to the beach – for doing whatever they don’t have time for during the workweek. In that way, Shabbat can remain a prominent feature of the Jewish state – as I believe it should be – without the same division and resentment. It can become a source of unity and national pride.”

They are conforming to the papal system’s day of rest in the same way that Arab countries are.
