The Sunday movement, always eager to find any reason to exalt the first day of the week, is now stretching the limits of reason with their latest claim: that Sunday is now the best day for dating. Their argument appears more like an act of desperation rather than providing any biblical or scientific data that says that Sunday is the ideal day for romantic connections. The truth is that this is just another weak attempt to reinforce the idea that Sunday is the cornerstone of civilization for religious, personal, and now romantic life.
On January 4, 2025, the New York Post published an article that made such a weak attempt to persuade readers that Sunday is the ideal day for dating:
• “Erika Ettin, an online dating coach based in Brooklyn, said Dating Sunday is the perfect storm. ‘Historically, Sunday has been the busiest day for online dating, likely because a good way to beat the Sunday scaries is to distract yourself with the hope of meeting a partner. Add to that New Year’s resolutions, and you have Dating Sunday,’ she said.” [1]
• “Danny Mondello, who lives in Brooklyn, sees the appeal of Sundays … ‘Sunday’s like notorious for the day of relaxation, the day you stay home and hang out with your significant other. And I guess if you don’t have a significant other, you’re gonna use Sunday to find that person,’ he said. ‘And most people are at home and hung over on Sundays, at least I am’.” [1]
So according to the experts, Sunday is the day for rest, worship, family time, recreation, and now for romance. While Sunday might offer free time for some people, this day is not inherently connected with love. The scriptures teach us that love originates from God (1 John 4:7-8) and when we reflect His love in our lives, this will extend out to our relationships with others, none of which depends on Sunday.
Love is the fulfilling of God’s law (Roman 13:8-10), because we are directed to act in ways that honor both Him and our neighbors. Jesus affirmed this truth when He declared that the greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40).
These two principles form the foundation upon which all other laws and prophetic teachings stand. When we love God and others, we will keep the commandments from the heart and fulfill both the letter and the spirit of the law. We can then foster righteous relationships and reflect God’s character in the world.
Without giving any evidence, this idea that Sunday is the day for relationships is nothing more than just another marketing tool that seeks to reinforce the idea that Sunday is the crowning day for every aspect of life. We are witnessing a relentless push to restore Sunday as the special day for rest, spiritual reflection and community connection.
Without providing evidence, the New York Post is pushing the idea that Sunday is the day for relationships. This is just another marketing tool meant to reinforce the idea that Sunday is the crowning day for all aspects of life. Once again, we are witnessing the relentless effort to reestablish Sunday as the special day for rest, spiritual reflection, and community connection.
“Already preparations are advancing, and movements are in progress, which will result in making an image to the beast” (Review and Herald, April 23, 1889).
