Adapted from Luke 10:25-37
A certain religious liberty lawyer stood up, and tempted Christ, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus answered, What is written in the law? how readest thou? The lawyer said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, strength and mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Christ said, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. But the religious liberty attorney, wanting to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus said …
A man was driving from Loma Linda to Battle Creek and passed an abortion clinic. There he saw innocent babies, full term, being led to their destruction. At that moment a university professor from a prominent church-owned university passed by. Seeing the imminent destruction of the innocent babies, the university professor crossed to the other side of the street and said:
“We can’t get involved because if we save those babies, the evangelical Christians could get political power and then the mark of the beast will come. I’m sorry, but for the sake of religious liberty and to protect our church from being seduced into politics, you must die.”
Not long after, a conference official from a church entity in the Pacific Northwest passed by and saw the poor innocent babies heading toward their untimely destruction. He also passed by the other side of the street and tried to give hope to the little ones by saying: “Well, look on the bright side. Your death means our institutions will receive $100,000 in future funding from abortion money.”
Afterwards, a pro-lifer came walking by. You know about the pro-lifers, right? These are the ones who are despised by the modern church today, just as the Samaritans were despised by the Jews. Now when the pro-lifer saw the babies, he took pity and did everything he could to rescue them. Some were saved and, sadly, others were not.
Then said Jesus to the religious liberty lawyer, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to those who fell into the hands of the abortionists?” The church attorney, who did not not want to mention the right-wing, pro-life, political hack by name, was forced to reply, “I guess the one who had mercy on them.”
Jesus commanded him, “Go and do likewise.”
