Pastor Dennis Priebe is a Seventh-day Adventist minister who works with Amazing Facts Ministries. [1] He has been preaching in several churches calling the abortion crisis a political “Trojan Horse” that we need to avoid because of its close association to “evangelical politics.” He is suggesting that the political debate on abortion (the Trojan Horse) is trying to make its way into Adventism to establish “Christian Dominionism” and eventually destroy the religious liberties of minorities in America.
First of all, abortion is a moral issue, not a political one. Even if abortion has strong political ramifications, it is still not a political issue. But some, such as Dennis Priebe and others, want to make it political. Here’s the reason why abortion is a moral issue:
New revelations have just surfaced during a court proceeding that expose the ugly and gruesome reality of the abortion industry. According to a preliminary hearing at the Superior Court of California in San Francisco “beating baby hearts” were being sold by the abortion industry. It was also revealed that the heads of babies were being marketed like commodities “with or without their bodies” because of the high demand for “fetus brain tissue.” In a video that was played in court, abortion industry insiders were requesting that “lab technicians” close the eyes of the babies when delivering their decapitated heads to customers. [2]
Brothers and Sisters, this is a moral issue not a political one. This unspeakable horror and mass slaughtering being committed for profit is a crime against humanity. This clear disregard for human life is the working of demonic agencies, and God’s people can NEVER remain silent or take the position that abortion is just simply some political issue for an ineffective government to somehow fix.
Most Christians kept silent on the evils of slavery because it was too “political.” Most Christians in Germany and Europe kept silent on the evils of the Nazis because it was too “political.” Sadly, today most Christians, including Seventh-day Adventists, are turning a blind eye to the deliberate, wholesale killing of children.
When churches identify abortion as a political matter we shamelessly equate the gruesome and violent slaughter of the innocent to the everyday debate over taxes, foreign policies, deficit spending and political campaigns. These issue are not the same and never can be. Political forums are places where ideas are debated, but abortion clinics are the killing fields where horrific acts of genocide take place that so many people, including “believers,” simply ignore.
Protecting the unborn is defending the law of God. Enforcing a Sunday law by setting up an image to the beast is defending the laws of man. These are not the same issue, and to characterize the abortion crisis as a political issue is an attempt to wash our hands from any responsibility. This is just another excuse to remain silent.
The church needs to speak out and identify abortion as one of the greatest catastrophic moral failures of our time. The more the church speaks out against this national sin, the more babies will be saved from a horrific death. The more the church speaks out against the abortion crisis, the more hearts and minds will be changed to honor the sanctity of life.
Pastor Dennis Priebe wants to prevent the Trojan Horse from coming into Adventism. The truth is that the real Trojan Horse was introduced into Adventism when our hospitals began performing abortions over 50 years ago. In fact, abortion advocates in America have already set up a false god called “pro-choice” and we have been bowing down to this idol and aborting innocent babies as offerings for decades.
What is remarkable is that Pastor Dennis Priebe doesn’t even address the widespread transgression of the 6th Commandment taking place both in society and within Adventism. Forget about the mark of the beast – we are not even ready for the coming crisis if we can’t even stand up for God’s law now!
Instead of standing up against the real Trojan Horse that has already entered Adventism over 50 years ago and instead of working to end abortion in the church Pastor Priebe, like many others, is spinning this issue on abortion and calling it part of the Evangelical’s attempt to establish a theocracy in America. Here’s the reality:
1. On December 7, 1941 the Empire of Japan attacked our naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 2,400 American soldiers and civilians died and another 1,100 more were wounded. We went to war over this.
2. On September 11, 2001 around 3,000 people died while another 6,000 were injured during a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in New York City. We went to war over this.
3. But there was another day, another great tragedy that took place on January 22, 1973. On this day the United States Supreme Court lifted abortion restrictions in all 50 states and territories in the US and this has resulted in one of the greatest disasters known to modern man. Over 3,000 American citizens lose their lives every day – 1 every 30 seconds. [3] But today we are being told to stay out of this issue because it’s too political. Amazing!
The abortion crisis in America is the equivalent to one Pear Harbor bombing or one 9/11 Terrorist attack EVERY SINGLE DAY – day after day, week after week! These events were not just something political, they were national tragedies that deeply impacted and affected everyone.
It is only when society sees abortion for what it is – a reprehensible crime against humanity which affects everyone – that the American people will finally say that enough is enough. Everyone benefits when the evil of abortion is ended. If we don’t stop it, God will intervene as He did in the days of Noah and Lot and stop it Himself. The problem is that we will have even more blood on our hands. We are already guilty for allowing abortions to take place in Adventist institutions.
As a church we cannot continue maintaining the status quo of silence and indifference on the evils of abortion. We cannot continue being neutral or complicit during one of the greatest acts of immorality of our time. And for the church to dismiss the ugly reality of the abortion crisis by characterizing it as a “political debate” is a gross failure on our part of being a moral force and light to the world:
“Warn every soul that is in danger. Leave none to deceive themselves. Call sin by its right name. Declare what God has said in regard to lying, Sabbathbreaking, stealing, idolatry, and every other evil. ‘They which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.’ Galatians 5:21.” (Desire of Ages, p. 806).
