Every week, the Vatican prepares special readings for Sunday designed to help deepen the faith of the Catholic community. These special Sunday readings are called “Lord’s Day Reflections.” [1] Once again, the public is being manipulated into embracing the Sunday rest agenda. The Vatican decrees Sunday as the Lord’s Day, and the world follows. However, saying that Sunday is the Lord’s Day is simply not true. Yet this lie has been repeated again and again until the vast majority of Christians seem to have believed it.
God warned us against the coming change in His Sabbath in the book of Daniel:
“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” Daniel 7:25.
This power would not only claim the divine titles that alone belong to God; it would also change the Sabbath and persecute God’s people. The attempt to change times and laws is a reference to the Sabbath commandment because this is the only commandment in the Decalogue that has to do with time. God calls this period of rest “the Sabbath of the Lord thy God” (Exodus 20:10). He calls the seventh-day Sabbath “My holy day” (Isaiah 58:13). Jesus claims to be the “Lord” of the “Sabbath” day (Mark 2:28). To change the Sabbath, you have to change the 10 Commandments because His law enforces the observance of God’s holy time.
And although Christ declares that not a “jot or a tittle” shall in any wise pass from the law as long as heaven and earth remain (Matthew 5:18), yet God warns us that this little horn power—the Papal Church—will attempt to change it. He says this change that Rome would make would affect God’s day of rest. Therefore, the charge is that it would change—or attempt to change—the Sabbath.
Rome Admits Its Guilt
“The Bible says, ‘Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.’ The Catholic Church says: ‘No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.’ And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church. (T. Enright, C.S.S.R., in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, Feb. 18, 1884).
“The Catholic Church, over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday … The Christian Sabbath is therefore to this day, the acknowledged offspring of the Catholic Church; without a word of remonstrance from the Protestant world.” (Catholic Mirror, September 23, 1893).
“Sunday is a Catholic institution and its claims to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles … From beginning to end of the Scriptures there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first. (Catholic Press, August 25, 1900, Sydney, Australia).
“Question: Which is the Sabbath day? Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day. Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday? Answer. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” (Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Converts Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957), p. 50.
Rome hasn’t changed and will never change. Today, the Vatican continues to promote these errors through its “Lord’s Day Reflections.” The Roman Catholic Church does not base its doctrines solely on the Bible but rather on tradition. However, Protestants claim that their foundation is the Bible alone. Therefore, it is clear that by observing Sunday, the Protestant churches have rejected the Bible and have joined Rome in embracing doctrines that are not grounded in God’s inspired word.
The duty, then, of every true Protestant is to cast away this unscriptural practice and doctrine of Sunday observance and to follow the Bible, Jesus, and the apostles in the observance of the true Sabbath, the seventh day of the week. God desires that His people embrace truth. What is truth? What does the Bible say? The Bible is our safe guide. There is no other foundation on which to build.
