“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, and deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast.” Revelation 13:13-14.
Donald Trump held a victory rally in Washington D.C. after defeating Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. At the beginning of this rally, two young women named Angela Halili and Arielle Reitsma, from the Christian podcast called Girls Gone Bible, offered the opening prayer. In their prayer, the religious podcasters intertwined their invocation and praise of God with Trump’s election. They called upon God to release His power over the United States by sending fire from heaven and bringing revival to our country in a powerful way never seen before.
The Book of Revelation mentions fire coming down from heaven and describes how the second beast—USA—will perform great signs to deceive people rather than bringing about biblical revival. These passages reveal that supernatural signs, such as calling fire down from heaven, will be used to persuade people into following the first beast—Rome—by receiving her mark, Sunday rest by law. This warning is repeated throughout Scripture, as we were warned that false prophets would perform lying wonders in the last days.
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Matthew 24:24.
“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10.
Ellen G. White, a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, wrote extensively about the two beasts in Revelation 13 and the fire from heaven. She interprets these signs as relating to end-time events involving false miracles, spiritual deception, and the enforcement of Sunday worship in opposition to God’s true seventh day Sabbath—Saturday.
“It is the lying wonders of the devil that will take the world captive, and he will cause fire to come down from heaven in the sight of men. He is to work miracles; and this wonderful, miracle-working power is to sweep in the whole world. It is now just beginning” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 51).
“He doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, and deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do. Revelation 13:13, 14. No mere impostures are here foretold. Men are deceived by the miracles which Satan’s agents have power to do, not which they pretend to do” (Great Controversy, p. 553).
“Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions … Papists, who boast of miracles as a certain sign of the true church, will be readily deceived by this wonder-working power; and Protestants, having cast away the shield of truth, will also be deluded” (Great Controversy, p. 588).
Satan will use signs and wonders to deceive the world. These false miracles will persuade many to accept the authority of the beast and its image, which symbolizes apostate religious and political powers, and they will eventually receive the mark on their hand or forehead. These deceptive signs will convince many that the false system of worship must somehow be divinely approved.
The false miracles will be used to convince people to embrace the false Sunday laws, thus rejecting God’s true Sabbath. These false miracles will also lead to the persecution of those who refuse to comply with the system of the beast. True followers of God will be accused of rebellion and blamed for the world’s problems.
“Men will be required to render obedience to human edicts in violation of the divine law. Those who are true to God will be menaced, denounced, proscribed” (Last Day Events, p. 150).
“The whole world is to be stirred with enmity against Seventh-day Adventists, because they will not yield homage to the papacy, by honoring Sunday, the institution of this antichristian power. It is the purpose of Satan to cause them to be blotted from the earth, in order that his supremacy of the world may not be disputed” (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 36).
As we witness the closing events of earth’s history unfolding, God’s faithful people must stand firm in their faith, unwavering in their commitment to proclaiming His truth. Deception, persecution, and false miracles will seek to shake the foundation of our belief, but we are called to remain faithful, grounded in the Word of God. Now more than ever, we must boldly proclaim the Three Angels’ Messages, warning the world of Babylon’s fall and calling all to worship the true Creator. The enemy will use every means to silence the voices of God’s remnant, yet we must press forward with courage, knowing that our strength comes from Christ.
I think I understand the prophecies in Revelation but I am having a hard time hearing the constant comments and sermons that our current President will be the one to fulfill the end time prophecy. Just because people are praying to God? And yes, it could very well be President Trump. We don’t know. I well remember when J.F.K. Was elected. We just knew the end of the world was upon us. I think our time would be better focused in praying for our continued faith and commitment to Jesus, our King.
