Hard to believe (but it shouldn’t be) that Christians should think this way. There is no legitimate concern about staying silent here, especially considering the hypocrisy pointed out in the article. No wonder the church is pathetically impotent. Let’s see how you act when you find out a family member has been abused. “Oh, but if I say something, the (parent/grandparent/uncle/aunt/neighbor/foster parent, etc.) will treat the kid far worse!” Yeah, let’s just not say anything. Then we’ll see what you say when you face your Maker some day and He asks you why you didn’t defend the fatherless, the widow, and the oppressed. Unconscionable.

If we are silent on this issue we are compliant to accepting what is going on. Jesus did not hold back in telling the religious leaders they were wrong for oppressing the people…treating the poor unjustly, etc. So, we today should not be silent on these issues. The church wants to hide behind this being a “political” issue, but this is not political it’s humanitarian. Sadly, most will only raise their voices when the oppression impacts them directly.
