Hi Lana, Rome was the power ruling during Jesus time. The Catholic church didnt come until much later, during the 300's, the roman emperor Constantine converted to Christianity (supposedly) and started slowly making a lot of changes to unite the pagans and the Christians. Most of these changes were twisted representations of the bible truth.
The early period from Jesus time until Rome started taking over Christianity was a much purer time of belief, people kept the sabbath etc and lived up to the light they had.

I'm not a "church goer" but have studied scripture since childhood and am I wrong about this point of view? The Catholic church ruled everything including the government, during Jesus's life. And His preaching was a threat to the Catholic church and their wealth if He converted people to Christianity? So, I feel like it was in their best interest to silence Him. I believe they were totally responsible for His crucifixion.

The pope has stated that he despises fundamental Christians. Even in his own church! I am surprised that Ganoune Diop didn't go to this. Maybe he did, and is keeping a low profile! I am sure he has gotten a lot of flack over the previous meetings he has attended. He is all for our "going back to the mother church". Those from within will be our worst enemies. We must remain faithful at all cost! Heaven will be cheap enough if we make it.
