Jerry Brown also attended Santa Clara, prior to studying to become a Jesuit priest, which he did not do. Brown served 3 terms as California governor. He also served as attorney general and mayor of Oakland. California cities have been governed by Jesuit educated politicians for decades. Rose Bird, appointed by Jerry Brown, was a chief justice of the California Supreme court for 10 years. She was also a devout Roman Catholic. She overturned every one of the 61 death penalty convictions that she reviewed during her tenure.
