Any day of rest is beneficial, but only one was created by God and cannot be undone but by God Himself. Calling for people to take a day of rest is and will be beneficial to all who would choose to do so. Mandating that people take a day of rest other than the one God has appointed, is a direct challenge to His authority. Obstinate rebellion against one of His commands.

1Sa 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Though the wrong day was chosen, blue laws did have their virtue. A day off to spend time with family and not focus on consumerism is good no matter what the day. It is the rich spiritual blessing that is missed in making that day any other than the 7th day Sabbath and that is more important than the physical rest aspect.
