The spirit of competition, in essence, says, “I will dominate you. I will make myself a winner at your expense.” Whereas the Spirit of Christ, in essence, says, “I will do all that I can, by the grace of God, to help YOU be a FOREVER winner.”
Philippians 2:3 says, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.”

I know this from personal experience. I have seen competitive sports infiltrate academies as well. Meditating on God’s word, and prayer, are crowded out of the mind by competition, thrills, and the boost of ego and pride when winning. Sorry to see this, but it is not surprising.
