Ganoune Diop, Director of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, prepared a special video that was presented to the General Conference Executive Committee during the Annual Council held October 7-13, 2021 (See Andrew Henriques’ video [1]). Diop gave a 36-minute talk on Revelation 14 and the Three Angels’ Message and challenged “church members to assess their own theological misconceptions and reframe Revelation as a message of hope, rather than weaponizing it as one of judgment or fear.” [2]
Ganoune Diop also warned against “adopting an attitude of fear” that “can warp Adventist theology, eschatology and behavior, especially around hot topics like the mark of the beast or the seal of God, causing Adventists to become unloving and judgmental.” Ganoune Diop called on church leaders during Annual Council 2021 to “reframe” the Three Angels’ Message and make it less “fearful.” He said that we should not be unloving and judgmental but instead offer hope and love. [2]
This man is actually much more dangerous than non-Adventists who completely reject the Three Angels’ Message. Ganoune Diop is tearing down the way God said the message should be given by insisting that we should love people, as if anyone had ever disagreed with that in the first place. The most common method employed by those who seek to pervert God’s word is not to publicly contradict the message, but instead to simply refuse to discuss the core subjects about the Three Angels’ Messages (Sunday is the Mark of the Beast, the papacy is the beast, identifying Babylon and calling people out) and instead proclaim that God loves everyone.
This is the new approach that we have just been told to follow during the 2021 Annual Council. This is the traitors approach to preaching the Three Angels’ Message. It is a selfish and cowardly approach. It is self-serving and the surest way to guarantee that people will remain in Babylon until it is too late. This is how we abandon the sinner to his sin and apostasy. Today some are stripping faith of its testing truths and reshaping it to make it more culturally acceptable. Thanks to the ecumenical movement, church leaders are choosing to bring people a watered-down version of the message. The greatest and most solemn message ever entrusted to God’s people is being corrupted by a so-called “love” that will send souls quickly and directly into the lake of fire.
“It is not from love for their neighbor that they smooth down the message entrusted to them, but because they are self-indulgent and ease-loving. True love seeks first the honor of God and the salvation of souls. Those who have this love will not evade the truth to save themselves from the unpleasant results of plain speaking. When souls are in peril, God’s ministers will not consider self, but will speak the word given them to speak, refusing to excuse or palliate evil” (Prophets and Kings, p. 141).
In his video presentation, Diop mentioned the mark of the beast, but did not describe Sunday as a false Sabbath. He never mentioned “Sunday”. He only spoke of the mark of the beast to attack the misunderstandings of some Seventh-day Adventists:
Minute 17:43: “Now, a few words on a topic that has been misunderstood many times, I must say. And that is the mark of the beast and the seal of God. To misunderstand Adventist eschatology can lead to serious consequences.”
Minute 18:00: “Those who confuse future events (mark of the beast) with current reality dismiss relationships with other Christians, for example, as unnecessary and useless. They conflate other Christians with future enemies and act as if their destiny is already sealed, and further, that the mark of the beast is already fixed on those who don’t keep the Biblical Sabbath. This fundamental hermeneutical fallacy clouds their thinking as to faith, hope and love.”
I don’t know of any Seventh-day Adventist who says that people have already received the mark of the beast. Ganoune Diop is using the straw man argument. He first creates a false impression and then refutes that impression rather than addressing the real issue about the mark of the beast: the papacy is the beast and Sunday is its mark. Ganoune Diop also says that we cannot attribute the future prophetic crisis to the present conditions in our world. What in the world is he talking about? God gives prophetic warnings about the future in advance so that we can help people escape the dangers that lie ahead. Noah preached for 120 years BEFORE the flood came, not after. Just because the Mark of the Beast is till future doesn’t mean that we should not give the warning today. What does Ganoune Diop want us to do, to keep quiet until the plagues begin to fall?
“Are we to wait until the fulfillment of the prophecies of the end before we say anything concerning them? Of what value will our words be then? Shall we wait until God’s judgments fall upon the transgressor before we tell him how to avoid them? Where is our faith in the word of God? Must we see things foretold come to pass before we will believe what He has said? In clear, distinct rays light has come to us, showing us that the great day of the Lord is near at hand, ‘even at the doors.’ Let us read and understand before it is too late” (Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 20).
Next, Ganoune Diop quotes Ellen White about the mark of the beast. Think about this, of all the clear statements by Ellen White describing Sunday as the mark of the beast, the only one Ganoune Diop used was the following:
Minute 18:34: “And it is important to understand Ellen White’s consistent teaching regarding the mark of the beast which is expressed in the following: “No one has yet received the mark of the beast. The testing time has not yet come. There are true Christians in every church, not excepting the Roman Catholic communion. None are condemned until they have had the light and have seen the obligation of the fourth commandment. But when the decree shall go forth enforcing the counterfeit Sabbath, and the loud cry of the third angel shall warn men against the worship of the beast and his image, the line will be clearly drawn between the false and the true. Then those who still continue in transgression will receive the mark of the beast” (Evangelism, 234).
Then Diop takes time once more to attack Seventh-day Adventists on the subject of the Seal of God and the mark of the beast:
Minute 19:43: “Ellen white’s declarations on the Seal of God are sobering and should never lead us to a spirit of triumphalism or accusations of others.” (Minute 19:43).
It is interesting that throughout the 36-minute presentation, Ganoune Diop ignores the real issue about the Third Angel’s Message; namely that the observance of Sunday when enforced by law is the mark of the beast. Furthermore, Ganoune Diop completely ignores the Second Angel’s message. He does not identify Babylon nor does he describe the current state of corruption and apostasy in which the religious world finds itself and the urgency to come out of that communion. When talking about Revelation 14, how can you ignore the Second Angel’s Message and the Latter Rain Message of Revelation 18 that empowers God’s people with the final warning message ever given to our world: “Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Rev. 18:4?
There must be a marked separation between God’s people and Babylon. There can be no compromise or harmony between the two. “Oh, but Jesus sat and mingled with sinners,” is the excuse we hear as the justification for joining with Babylon. Yes, Jesus sat down with sinners, but when He sent them away, He said, “Go and sin no more” (John 8:11). Jesus did not confirm people in their sin or apostasy, as the modern ecumenical movement does. Nor was Jesus silent about the moral issues of the day. That is the big difference.
Today, ecumenists like Ganoune Diop want to cater to “religious actors” who hate the truths of the Bible and who are actively working to spread the wine of Babylon around the world. Our leaders are joining those who are pushing for full visible ecclesiastical unity, pantheistic environmentalism, Sunday sacredness and an end to the free market economy. This will lead to the loss of individual freedoms and persecution.
Most of today’s leaders in Adventism will only mention the Three Angels’ Messages without ever venturing too far into them. They are either afraid or ashamed of our message. But these same leaders have no problem attacking those who preach these messages in all their fulness, calling them hateful, bigoted, unloving and critical. Rather than address their own fear and cowardice, they attack those who openly share the Three Angels’ Messages the way God said they should be shared:
“The faithful few know that it is the time not to hide their face but to exalt the law of Jehovah by unfurling the banner on which is inscribed the message of the third angel, ‘Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.’ Revelation 14:12. The truth must not be hid, it must not be denied or disguised, but fully avowed, and boldly proclaimed” (Evangelism, p. 281).
“The people of the world will try to induce us to soften our message” (Counsels to Writers and Editors, p 94).
“Satan has devised a state of things whereby the proclamation of the third angel’s message shall be bound about. We must beware of his plans and methods. There must be no toning down of the truth, no muffling of the message for this time. The third angel’s message must be strengthened and confirmed. The eighteenth chapter of Revelation reveals the importance of presenting the truth in no measured terms but with boldness and power … There has been too much beating about the bush in the proclamation of the third angel’s message. The message has not been given as clearly and distinctly as it should have been” (Manuscript 16, 1900).
“In the third angel’s message we have a truth that is to be worldwide. It must be carried from village to village, and from city to city. Then do not, because you have a comfortable home and good church privileges, keep your light under a bushel” (Manuscript Release, Vol. 3, p. 285).
Some claim that it is “love” that prompts them to hide in a corner and say nothing about Sunday laws, the healing of the deadly wound and the need to call people out of Rome’s Babylonian family. Instead, they assume the fetal position and fall asleep only to come out of hiding to admonish those who don’t share their version of “love.” Meanwhile, the papacy works to unite political and religious powers to impose its teachings on our culture.
“If every watchman on the walls of Zion had given the trumpet a certain sound, the world might ere this have heard the message of warning. But the work is years behind. While men have slept, Satan has stolen a march upon us” (Testimonies, Vol. 9, p.29).
By changing the message to make it more acceptable and not offensive, we are actually denying people the final invitation of mercy that God wants the world to hear. There is no such thing as a seeker-sensitive or culturally friendly gospel. This new reasoning is separating God’s people from our historical beliefs and is causing many to abandon our past experience. The Three Angels’ Messages are truly loving, Christian and godly just as they are. You cannot add or take anything away from them. God’s message is a million times more loving than any useless, crowd-pleasing sermon on tolerance and inclusion that comes from the General Conference Department of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty.
The clear and uncompromising word of God is true love. There is no other kind of love. Who has more love? Those who soften the truth and cause souls to be lost during the final judgments? Or those who speak the unchanged truth to save souls from the wrath to come?
“The most fearful threatening ever addressed to mortal is contained in the third angel’s message. That must be a terrible sin which calls down the wrath of God unmingled with mercy. Men are not to be left in darkness concerning this important matter; the warning against this sin is to be given to the world before (not after) the visitation of God’s judgments, that all may know why they are to be inflicted, and have opportunity to escape them” (Great Controversy, pp. 449, 450).
The most terrible message that has ever been given to humanity cannot be minimized or made less fearful. You cannot dress the truth with ambiguity. The truth is simple when left alone. The truth does not need you to defend it because it defends itself. It is not necessary to bury it with human elements. We are discussing whether the Third Angel of Revelation 14 is a message of love or not. God Himself gave us the book of Revelation. It must be interpreted. The fearsome representations of beasts and judgments are designed to awaken the world from its slumber, and no ecumenical soft-pedaling with Rome will bring success to our efforts. Truly, the Third Angel’s Message, along with the other two, is a message of hope and love for those who heed the warning.

Diop is not confused! His words are designed to confuse, question, and doubt. After all, he was educated in Paris by the Jesuits. Therefore, Diop was trained in the “language of the Jesuits”: Cauistry, Equivocation, NLP, Circular Reasoning.

Our church is experiencing so many challenges because of mental degenerative aspect. Let’s prayer for guidance by the Lord to teach us his ward and the best way to tackle so many issues bedevilling our church. Now , my stand is; Let each and everyone of the us go back and take his o her bible and read together with sop books……… let’s take a stand on the truth even though heaven falls. Time is running out and we don’t need to come up with different approach which is already in place. Our duty is to preach the truth and teach ……the rest God and the holy spirit will do. As at now, trust non of our pastors but God.

The language used by some people here is, judgemental and does not reflect spirit of Christ. Jesus spent most of his time demonstrating the love of God and not condemning as some here are doing – condemning the speaker and labelling him Jesuit and traitor etc. Jesus talked loving to Judas even though he knew he will betray him…. If we are Christians, then we must follow Christ pattern. I see no problem with the message.
Yes. We need to take heed. However, not by abdicating our responsibility of proclaim clean and clear messages. The Adventist message as well as any truth is offensive to those who don’t want to hear it. So, naturally, many will not accept. We must not forget that our job is to proclaim the message; not base it on how people choose to respond to it. That’s the Holy Spirit’s job. No matter how hard the message is to the perishing it must be changed by men. They are given by a loving God and yet they are fearful to read, even when no one is interpreting them. We are not more loving than God. Sunday churches have chosen to side step the book of revelation to concentrate on smooth teachings we can’t afford to do that and be true to God’s calling. In all this, the SDA church is still the fastest growing denomination out there. Why? Because of our fundamental teaching. It’s not the Church’s place to water down God’s word. If we do, that will be one fast track to apostasy like the rest of the Churches. Let’s not forget that most of these Protestant/Evangelicals were once pure. Look at how antagonistic they are now toward Bible truths.

We are truly living in the last days and deceptions are on the rise more than ever before. We now need to rely more on the word directly from the Bible than our Pastors or GC/ Conference officials.

I don’t really know who he was, what his true motivation is. I only think that the biblical message must be addressed without no change. Some messages insist more on love, peace, salvation process; others on the judgement, punishment, destruction, warnings… Each message must be presented according to its content. Words to say or to avoid are already in the message. It’s just a matter of theme, subject and the recipient
