In the book Great Controversy, we are warned that as we get closer to the end of time, the influence and power of Rome would increase throughout the world:
“Catholicism is gaining ground upon every side. See the increasing number of her churches and chapels in Protestant countries. Look at the popularity of her colleges and seminaries in America, so widely patronized by Protestants … These things should awaken the anxiety of all who prize the pure principles of the gospel. Protestants have tampered with and patronized popery; they have made compromises and concessions which papists themselves are surprised to see, and fail to understand. Men are closing their eyes to the real character of Romanism, and the dangers to be apprehended from her supremacy. The people need to be aroused to resist the advances of this most dangerous foe to civil and religious liberty.” (Great Controversy, pp. 565, 566).
Do we understand the methods of Rome? Pope Francis is building a global religious network before our eyes. He is building bridges to all the world’s religions by interconnecting them into one. Pope Francis is calling upon the different religious traditions to help end the coronavirus by invoking their many gods in one, big interfaith prayer service on May 14, 2020. The Pope said:
“Remember, May 14, all believers together, believers of the different [religious] traditions, to pray, to fast, and to do works of charity.”
“Each one from wherever they are and according to the teachings of their religion, faith, or sect, should implore God to lift this pandemic off us and the entire world, to rescue us all from this adversity, to inspire scientists to find a cure that can turn back this disease, and to save the whole world from the health, economic, and human repercussions of this serious pandemic.” [1]
No true student of Bible Prophecy can deny the political and religious implications of this type of gathering. Who can deny that we are seeing the fulfillment of God’s word when the First Beast of Revelation 13:1-4 summons the entire religious world to unite through interfaith prayer? And according to Bible Prophecy, how will the world respond?
“And all the world wondered after the beast.” Revelation 13:3.
The churches are accepting the propaganda that tells us that it doesn’t matter what you believe, just as long as we are united. So many religious leaders are happy to go along with this. The problem is that in order for us to unite with all the conflicting doctrines of the world while invoking a diversity of gods, this would require us to make massive concessions to God’s truth. This is not biblical unity; it’s an unbiblical appeasement towards man and a massive selling-out of the true faith of God.
There must be an awakening on the part of God’s commandment-keeping people at this very time. Why? Because we are in a dangerous state of indifference. The weakness of our response to Rome’s interfaith events is proof that we have “slumbered” and are fast asleep. When God’s people fail to fulfill their responsibility in warning men and women of the approaching danger, and instead choose to participate in these ecumenical engagements, this is proof that we are sleeping.
Jesus described that there would be a terrible crisis of faith among God’s people just prior to His Second Coming: “While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept” Matthew 25:5. In truth, we cannot continue in a peaceful, false and comfortable slumber while the final events are taking shape. We must rise up with great power and give the trumpet a certain sound by boldly proclaiming: “Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him” Matthew 25:6.
Just before the final collapse of religious liberty, just before the union of all the churches and just before the implementation of the mark of the beast, God will do a great and glorious work on the earth. Through the power of the Latter Rain there will be a revival of primitive truth and godliness as in the former days. The Third Angel’s Message will warn people about Rome’s attempt to build a modern Tower of Babel (Revelation 18:1-5).
The world must be warned. This means that there can be no softening of the final testing message during this time. The little time of peace that we still have must be dedicated to bringing the gospel to the world, because under the reign of Antichrist all of our freedoms will be lost. The opportunity to share the Three Angels’ Message will become increasingly more difficult in the days ahead – and soon will be over.
“The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude. The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones” (Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 11).
The only antidote for this unholy alliance that Rome is trying to create on May 14, 2020 is the everlasting gospel found in Revelation 14:6-12. These great messages which the Lord gave must take precedence in the work of the church today. Only through the vigorous work of evangelism can there be any hope of salvation in the difficult days ahead.
