There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions.” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 36).
November 4, 2019 – The above video is published on the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Youth & Young Adult Ministries Department’s Facebook page. They call this video “pre-worship fun,” but this is not worship. It’s worldly entertainment. [1] Worldly hip hop and rap music is not holy worship to God. Jumping around is not worship. Noise is not worship. Drums beats are not worship. You cannot take the very same music beats that were designed to promote sex, pimps, prostitution, thugs, gangsters, murder, drugs, greed, violence and objectifying women and think that by simply changing the words that this will somehow sanctify the music and make it holy and acceptable unto God.
“A bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts that which if conducted aright might be a blessing. The powers of satanic agencies blend with the din and noise to have a carnival, and this is termed the Holy Spirit’s working.” (Ibid., p. 36).
The music of the world doesn’t become holy by simply changing some of the words. Worldly music is already corrupt to begin with. The dancing associated with that music is also corrupt. And something that is corrupt and commonly associated with sex, drugs and alcohol cannot be used to convey the sacred, holy worship we owe to God.
“The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with such a confusion of noise and multitude of sounds as passed before me last January. Satan works amid the din and confusion of such music, which, properly conducted, would be a praise and glory to God. He makes its effect like the poison sting of the serpent.” (Ibid., p. 37).
“The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious methods for making of none effect the pure, sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth for this time.” (Ibid., p. 36).
The Bible never tells us to take elements that are associated with the world – loud banking, smashing and clanging music – and make them part of the church. That’s completely foreign to Scripture. When we think about worship music we should not be thinking about what the world esteems as popular, stylish and fashionable: “For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” Luke 16:14.
“No encouragement should be given to this kind of worship” (Ibid., p. 37).
“Satan will make music a snare by the way in which it is conducted. God calls upon His people, who have the light before them in the Word and in the Testimonies, to read and consider, and to take heed.” (Ibid., p. 38).
“Some are not satisfied with a meeting unless they have a powerful and happy time. They work for this and get up an excitement of feeling. But the influence of such meetings is not beneficial. When the happy flight of feeling is gone they sink lower than before the meeting because their happiness did not come from the right source” (Last Day Events, pp. 159, 160).
